It's about time that Ford got off their collective asses (in the design studio) and started thinking about designs that actually make people interested in their products.

The interceptor is just a concept, but it does take aim directly at the 2004 COTY winner (the 300C) which was selling like hot cakes. I'm glad that Ford is doing something, but I wonder if it will be in time

Guess I'm the odd one out here...

I think it looks like an abortion. Especially the back end. The front end of the car looks to be like a Ford Super Duty Truck

Ford has also said that they wont use the 5.0 Cammer motor in any production car, so that idea goes right out the window. I would guess that IF this happens (please God no) it would have the 4.6 3V that might be a little beefed up to handle more power to pull the extra load.

Ford needs to just fire the entire design department (I will give them props on the Mustang, great job) and look for new talent. Most of the stuff they have been putting out lately is sub-par compared to other companies and its showing in their sales. I mean, the F150 isn't even #1 anymore, that already got ousted and they aren't showing too many, if any, signs of improvement as they continue to lose market share. Their quality and designs lately have been quite lacking and hopefully this abortion of a car doesn't come to production because I think that it would most likely be a flop (unless they do some pretty big design changes before production, like the mustang).

What if this is a preview of the powertrain that'll end up in the next generation Mustang?

Now that Hobo mentioned it, the headlights do look like the front end of a Truck. Those need to be changed, but I like the low & long look for sure.

The 5.0 Cammer has been around for awhile and is essentially a modified 4.6 4V engine (look at the cam covers). The Hurricane engine is going to be 5.8 (Stang) or 6.2 (F-series) liters. There is a Boss 302 crate motor that is a well engineered Ford 302/5.0 small block (OHV), but it is not related to the Hurricane programme.

Pretty Ugly, but I think it would sell. It offers something the 300C/Charger doesn't; a manual transmission.

Anyway, something tells me this might be the crown vic replacement.

Think about it; Ford Interceptor concept.

If that really is the idea....I don't think it will work well.

Ford reveals Mustang-based concept
400-horsepower 4-door concept has underpinnings of famous sibling, but with more room for kids.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Ford Motor Co. will introduce a 4-door, V-8 concept-car carrying most of the mechanical underpinnings of its popular Mustang sports car, the company said in a recent statement.

With its six-speed manual gearbox, low roof-line and massive 22-inch wheels, the design is targeted at driving enthusiasts looking for a bold design but who can't fit the family in a two-door coupe.

Ford's Interceptor, a Mustang-based concept car, mates a 400-hp engine and a solid rear axle with four doors.
The car will be officially unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week.

The Interceptor is similar in design and spirit to Chrysler's (Charts) popular Dodge Charger sedan.

"The Interceptor concept is a sedan, but with the heart and soul of a performance car," Freeman Thomas, director of Ford's North American strategic design department, said in a statement.

Powering the square-shouldered sedan is a 400-horsepower Ford Racing 5.0-liter V-8 engine, a variant of the 4.6-liter currently in the Mustang GT.

Like the Mustang, the car is rear-wheel drive with a solid rear axle.

Inside, the interceptor boasts a black leather interior with contrasting caramel stitching on the seats.

Other features include a speedometer and tachometer with needles that start at the center and move opposite each other as speed and RPM climb. Ford (Charts) internationally kept many other extras out of the cabin.

"This car is about restraint, and not clouding the driving experience with too much technology," said Thomas. "There aren't a lot of layers between the driver and the road."

The car's four bucket seats sport four-point seat belts that go over both shoulders. The rear seats have belts that inflate in the event of a crash to minimize belt-related injuries.
