I'm thinking of buying a Mustang. I have a Super/Pro race only car that I'm going to sell after the Holidays. I just don't have the time to race every weekend. I want another street car. I've never owned a Ford, so I'm trying to do my research. My 1st thought was a 94-95 5.0L. Mainly because I wanted that body style, but didn't wanted the lower expense of the 5.0L engine.

I will be driving the car on nice days only. It will be trailered to the track when I get to go (5-6 times a year probably). I would guess 3000-5000 miles max a year. I want the car to go 11.0's or faster in street form.
Price range will be $10k to 15K. I want a very clean, supercharged car when I do it. My question to you 5.0L guys is, if you had the money I'm talking about, would you buy another 5.0L car or would you go to a newer 4.6L???

I'm not asking which is better, that would stir too much s*&$. You guys know way more about what's out there for these cars than I do, that's why I'm asking!
Thanks, Glenn

Hi Glenn,

Welcome to Stangnet. If you intend to hang around here, your screen name won't apply to you for long. So, let me know if you ever want to change it.

There are three 5.0 forums, and this one is used for engine/chassis tech. We also have one for tuning, and finally a "talk" section, which is used to discuss pretty much anything the other two forums don't cover. Your question and the ensuing discussion belong in that forum. So, I'm going to move it there, now.

Finally, my input is to go with a 5.0. For the money, it can't be beaten by anything. Its aftermarket is comparable to that of the late 350 sbc, and I dare say, even better with regard to modern tech. The 2v 4.6 found in Mustang GTs from '96 up to '04 do not respond to modifications to the same extent as the 4v's, the brand new 3v's and the 5.0s. Finally the price difference is what seperates the 4 & 3 valve 4.6s from the 5.0s. Both of them are more expensive to purchase and to modify, but they also have more potential than the stock 5.0 casting.

Good luck with whatever you choose,

Chris

I'd buy the 5.0, I have both and the 4.6 has NO BALLZ whatsoever. The 5.0 is a lot cheaper to build and turns more heads in my experience.

I have a 93 Notch and a 01 GT. I'd never get rid of my notch.

Im on my second 5.0. I had a 4V 01 Cobra and had more problems with that car then both my 5.0's combined, and it had half as many miles on it, go with the fox.

Thanks for all the input so far. I'm really interested in a supercharged car. I've had a turbo car in the past (a Grand National). & most lately I've been playing with Nitrous for the past 5 years. But I've never had a supercharged car. What supercharger is the best choice for a Ford? As far as performance & duribility?

Stick with the 5.0.

The 4.6 block will handle a bit more power in stock form, but the price of short blocks, and over-all modifications for foxes is ridiculously low compared to even 4.6's.

Most people pick Paxton over Vortech, until you get into big boost. The Vortech YSi trim is where it's at for big boost off a blower. Look up "S&B" (member here)...big numbers off a 347 stroker and a YSi trim.

Prochargers are also very cool. I know less about them than the others, but they mount on passenger side, and utilize a FMIC much like turbo's (air to air).

Welcome to the Jungle!
