Does anyone know if there is a recall for dash wiring. Last night my friend 2002 gt burned to the ground. The fire chief said it looked like the fire started under the dash. Anybody heard of any other car having the same problems. Thanks Ray

Wowo that really sucks, did he have an aftermarket stereo? Just asking, because if he did Ford will probably fight the warrantee

What warranty? It's an insurance claim now.

That's right! I hope your buddy didn't do that so he could get a new car? No offense, but that stuff does take place and the insurance company will look into it too. I truly feel bad for him if it was accidental, but if he did it for a new one or to get out from under the payments I hope he rots in jail. Fraud is just another reason why we pay so much for insurance. This is the first I've ever heard of that problem so you can't blame a guy for looking at both sides.

not if it was a build defect, insurance won't pay for a factory defect.

There was a guy online either here or over at the coral a couple of years ago that lost his Mustang to an electrical fire from the dashboard area. The car was at the Ford dealer having work done when it happend (engine work if I recall correctly), and they replaced it. If memory serves correctly the fire started when they recconected the battery.

This is totally different set of circumstances. In this case, it happened while in the care of a Ford authorized repair facility.

Steeda Cheeta, Everyone in the known universe carries Fire and Theft with their full coverage insurance. And since this car "burned to the ground", I doubt the insurer will be able to prove a "build defect". And I seriously doubt it was a build/design flaw. If it was, why would it take so long to expose itself? Think about it -- it's an interior fire, no weather, no wearable components, no heat to speak of, no fluids, no power sources, nothing. Sounds like an aftermarket/owner installed component is the culprit here. In any case, Mr. Insurance Adjuster will be handing him a check, unless they can prove fraud.

I am the owner. Fire started at the middle of the dash, low near the console, as per Fire Dept.
Any ideas? I had replaced my shifter, but I had used the cig lighter for power outlet to charge cell phone a few days earlier. It worked fine. I did not have any smells or fuse problems.
The car was not set on fire by myself, as one member hinted!
Witnesses saw the first window blow out, and Sheriff's Dept verified that there was no signs of a forced entry.
Here are links to pics.
If anyone has any ideas please post or e-mail me at gcasteel1@tampabay.rr.com.
Thanks to all

My friends IROC burnt to the ground due to a dash fire caused by aftermarket stereo equipment, it was even installed by a so called professional shop. You might ask your friend if he has a poorly installed or aftermarket stereo or check the work record if it was installed by someone else.

Sorry to hear about it man. It looks like you might still have some good stuff on there like wheels, brakes, rearend maybe?, tranny maybe? It might be worth it to buy it back, if you can, and part out what is still good. just an idea.

My heart goes out to you Bro! I know if that were my car, I'd be pretty upset.

Did you have any aftermarket guages or anything that required tap-ins for power?

Car was nearly stock. Magnaflow cat back and a K&N filter. No interior mosd, stock Mach 460 stereo. I did have an extinguisher, I was not in the car when it happened.
