Ford's Engineering Department in Mexico figured out how to install a V-8 engine in the Mustang II!

The MII is a car with a funny history. Started with the biggest engine being a V6 from Germany. Evolved being a V8 again, which Ford Mexico did already.
Having front disc brakes and steering rack even with mild engine.
Its a great car! And there are not often small cars with v8s...

Sorry for my delay in response to your Reply. I have been working for 3 weeks cleaning all of the components attached to a 1976 Mustang II fitted with a 302 engine whose first home was a Ford truck of the same year. As I reside in Mexico I am surprised whereever I see "Made in Mexico" cast into parts and components.
is an oddball which has seen much action over the past 49 years. Lots of deep metal repairs to the body "chassis" as it is unibody, to the suspension.... front and rear. The intent is to transform this Mustang II into a replica dirt track Modified as it is too far gone for any type of restoration. I call it "resurrection" as this vehicle or all purposes, was dead!
As I mentioned earlier, it appears someone wanted to make it a street racer as the engine is upgraded to a 302 having more power/torque mated to the Ford's 4 speed manual transmission, a 7.5 differential with a 3.07 gear. Front power disk brakes. I plan to use as much of the original components as possible except the 4-speed will get changed to a c-4 automatic for convenience.
 
I'd also suggest upgrading the 7.5 axle to something a little beefier as well (if you've not already planned on it....). 8.8 axles are fairly easy to modify to make them fit the chassis, and they should be easy enough to find. And since the II shares the same number of studs and the same bolt circle as Fox cars, it shouldn't be too hard to source axles to fit whichever route you plan to go. Just food for thought. :)

Yes, the 7.5 differential will eventually be replaced with an 8.8 or more common 9 inch differential if this car is to be used in actual competition. The plan is to get this car operable reusing what came with the car when it was gifted to me THEN upgrading parts and components in the future.
The present 7.5 differential appears to be tight and only needs axle and pinion seals. I notice there is no vent which might be why these differentials had chronic leaks at the seals. I will add a vent to the cover.
