Was over at my buddies house on Saturday changing out the intake manifold on my Audi and afterwards we mixed some drinks and started playing Forza 7. Needless to say, he got me hooked and now I want to put together a setup that I can play this game at home.
Let me start off by clarifying I'm not a gamer so I'm really only looking to put together something that can play this game and maybe a couple other racing games. I've only really played racing games from PS1 on up. The only console I currently have is PS2. I have some higher end computers and servers at home but nothing with a graphics card that can run this game at 1080p 60FPS like I want to. Plus, I'd like to keep this somewhat portable, humping around an R730 is no fun. I have a spare 42" 1080P TV that I'm planning on using as the monitor, so I'm not real concerned with 4K. I'll also be sitting about 6-8 feet back in my driving chair so 1080p is just fine for me.
His setup was on his gaming PC with a fairly decent graphics card running at 1080p/60. We were using a 42" 1080p/60 monitor sitting about 4 feet back. He has a Logitech Driving Force GT steering wheel.
I'm thinking about going with an Xbox One S 500GB since I don't need much storage and am happy with 1080p/60. It looks like I can pretty much get this console for less money then what I would spend on a better dedicated graphics cards for one of my workstations or servers. Any other reasons to look at using a PC with my goals in mind? Any suggestions on a decent feedback steering wheel for this setup? Of course I had an older Logitech Driving Force wheel I just sold about a month ago because I hadn't used it in ages.

Nope. A game box fits your description of desires.
Any computer you put together to run that game will be overkill for just about anything else except true rendering.
Go with the Xbox one during one of the many sales they have on them. For a can be bought used very cheap off eBay as well. I don’t think you are going to wait for major retailers sales again this year(for a was a game on sale almost everywhere around a Christmas and Black Friday/cyber Monday).
Have fun man, it’s a huge upgrade over your old ps2 capabilities.
Yeah, I saw a combo deal on Ebay (wireless controller, one game, Xbox One S 500GB) for like $220 shipped, new. I couldn't even come close to buying a graphics card for that. Apparently cryptocurrency mining has really jacked the price of GPU's lately.
And this game absolutely is killer, destroys everything I've played on PS2. It's the first driving simulator that I've felt I could actually hone some driving skills on. All the others just feel like games.

Meh... I know the main-stream is behind (as ususal). Now all these youtube schmuks have learned a new vocabulary word. Most of this mining is over but the crying. It's become so devalued that the power bill necessary to pull this off makes it counter-productive.
Video card prices as I have observed them have always been pretty high and have remained relatively high. The other part of this depends on what level of performance you want. It doesn't require much of a video card to equal the performance of an X-box or even a PS4.
A desk top computer is not handicapped by a 300 watt power supply.
Here's a relatively cheap video card that will outperform either of those boxes with and I3, I5, or I7 system with 8G:

This solution of course, doesn't satisfy your other requirements so the game box is still your best option IMO.

Yeah, it looks like everyone jumped on the bandwagon in December when Bitcoin become more of a buzzword and, as you said, mining was pretty much over. From what I see, Bitcoin doesn't even benefit from the GPU capabilities used for the block generation since they do it every 10 minutes. Unlike Etheruem and others that does it every 16 seconds or less. I do know the stock of GPU card has dwindled since December and production hasn't ramped up yet, so economics 101 plays into this
Either way, I don't care about crypto currency, I just like to be informed.
Thank you for the suggestions and explanations, always appreciated. Looks like I'll be going with a console.
