They are not gt40 heads they are the gt40P heads. You will need new headers. You do not need a new cam. Its hard to say what your hp will be but they flow a lot better than the stock e7's, so does the intake. Im not sure what kind of EGR delete you are running but it shouldn't be a problem. Do a search on "gt40p heads", and on "explorer intake", TONS of info.

Depending on what year explorer they could be either GT40 or GT-40P heads. Since he has the head, he can just look under where the valve are and see either GT40 or GT40P cast there. So i would assume he just has the gt-40's from a '96

You don't need to change the camshaft but it might be good for an upgrade. You should upgrade the springs however. At least swap the Mustang E7 springs if you don't spring for a quality spring like Trick Flow or Crane springs.

I'm putting together a similar combo

GT-40P's (self-ported w/ Crane springs)
TFS Stage 1 cam
1.72 RR's
Cobra Intake w/65mm TB

Hoping for 300 rwHP

not to thread jack but I'm really considering getting a set of gt40ps and porting them myself but how hard is it?

It just takes a lot of time with a grinder, i've reconsidered how much time i'm willing to invest and am just cleaning up some casting lines and reshaping the pushrod guides a bit. I'm not gonna go crazy as i don't want to soak too much money into these heads. Just a couple hours of cleaning up, new seals and new springs and slapping them on

Take a read here and decide if it's worth it to you.

with the heads and intake you could get anywhere from 30 to 50 at the wheels, maybe more if you're lucky and depending on how run down your stuff is and the explorer stuff isn't.....there's a lot of factors there. But I'd say 30-50 at the rear wheels depending on your tuning ability

If they're gt40p heads, no....but if they're standard gt40 heads, yes. the P heads will clearly say "gt40p" on them as well as have 4 bars on the end of the head as opposed to 3 bars on standard gt40
