I'm intrigued,....How do you get into this kind of racing?

Guys,..I can bet you that I'm one of the only ones here that have been on one of the best tracks in the USA driving as aggressively as the car would allow, following an ex-Formula driver at 100+ MPH.

The track in TX,...COTA...(Circuit of the Americas) in Austin,..Driving the new 5 series (540)..following Roberto Guerrero through 5 laps of the short circuit portion of that track,...(big fun)
I'm capable of doing it,...I just have to have the right car to play with...

Not thinkin the Monster is that car....

Well, it's not racing, it's HPDE or High Performance Driver Education. NASA, PCA, and BMWCCA all have good programs that get people on track for $150-$300 a day, depending on geography. SCCA has "track night in america" which is well-intentioned but makes me cringe at how little instruction is provided. There are regional groups like Chin Motorsports and Track Guys that do similar programs. You bring your car that will pass tech, preferably with known good brakes and high performance brake fluid and a cooling system that can take some stress, show up with a willingness to learn and have fun, and you're on your way.

Thanks for posting these videos. Now I know what I'm going to watch tonight while the wife is out :-)

I've been racing in EMRA, NASA, and SCCA events for years (nothing pro, just for fun). Currently have a LeMons team that I get my track fix from but I can't wait to get my current mustang back on the track.

The SCCA has a program called Track Night in America. It's probably the cheapest and easiest way to go drive on a track if a local track is on the schedule. NASA sometimes has a similar program at some of their events where you can pay by the session. I can't remember what they call those though. They call them hyperdrives at Hyperfest, but I have seen them at other events called something else.
Local SCCA and NASA regions will also have High Performance Driving Events (HPDE) or Performance Driving eXperience (PDX). Lots of other organizations put on HPDEs in various regions. I don't know the organizations near you, but if you go to the calendar at the track you want to drive you can usually figure it out. It usually costs around $200-250 per day and you need an up to date helmet. All these events will put instructors in your car or some other sort of lead/follow until you are signed off.
If you want to actually race, NASA and SCCA HPDEs can lead you into time trials after you get enough seat time. If you want to race wheel-to-wheel, you just need a race car and safety gear and sign up for race school. Spec Miata's are inexpensive, but ... the mid to back of pack is not a good place to be

Wow man that looks like a ton of fun!! Bumping and rubbing is par for the course with this kind of racing it seems.

It's a blast. Bumping and rubbing doesn't bother me much, but getting popped like that is getting old. My budget is too low to be up with the better drivers ... and too low to keep fixing the body. Not sure what I'm going to do this season, so far nothing. Watching that video sorta makes me want to go out and run again though.

I know it's just "disposable income" but it adds up and gets a bit tiresome. A bit different but I'm kinda done dumping money into my 5.0, enough is enough (don't hold me to this though, lol).

This! I am seriously considering moving to AZ or NM once the kid is out of high school and off to college (3 more years).

Hmmm,..I see the passenger in your car. Other than this last video, I always thought you were showing us video of you "competing" in some sort of "sportsman level" version of road racing. I haven't looked into the SCCA, but I will, I just always assumed that there were classes of experience that these track days catered to. I also assumed that after some instruction, a rookie driver is instructed to just focus on getting around the track, shaving his lap time, made aware that he has to stay over and allow a faster driver to pass, and not to pass anybody himself.
