Fram filter with no oil?? What the...

I recently pulled a Fram filter off and noticed there was no oil in it, actually it looked like it had never been used. Only happened once. What could be the cause of this?

Doesn't sound good. Was it the right filter, PH8A, ( I think) for a 302?

If so, trace the oil circuit to the pump and see if it is blocked, or if the oil pump relief valve has opened. Was there trash in the inlet, such as an old filter gasket?

Did the car have oil pressure?

If it lost pressure, suspect trash has gotten in the oil pump gears and jammed them, then broken the pump.

dont put another fram back on there, they are junk, get a Wix filter....
btw....ALL napa filters are Wix, get the gold filter, silver is cheaply made like the frams...

Motorcraft FL-1A... Best filter out there. If you haven't started teh car in a while, or even overnight... Sometimes it will flow back into the motor and the rest can be absorbed into filter material.

I agree... go with Motorcraft for a filter.

My filter usually drains back into the block. Never seen much oil in the filter.

May be a dumb question, but had the motor been started since the filter had been istalled?

lol, fram filters are famous for this ****. don't go anywhere near a fram, it'll destroy your engine.

Ditto, frams use a cardboard check valve, very bad for startups. FYI, just pulled a napa gold off my Dad's GT and it was only half full. FL1A's for me though.

I don't use or recommend the use of Fram oil filters but your statement is not true. The only thing inside of a Fram filter that is cardboard is the end caps.

hes right....they dont even use a real spring in there, its a peice of plastic junk...the wix gold filters use a real springs, and good rubber in there, the filter is also MUCH better quality than fram....we cut them open to show our customers what junk is on their car...

I work at Advance Auto, and some people won't go for anything except Fram. If we are out of it, I tell them, "I wouldn't go Fram anyway, they're junk." Some people just look at me, then most ask why and I tell them that "They don't have a bypass. If the filter get's clogged, that's it, no oil is gettin to your motor." Some of them probably think I'm wrong and some people's eyes get big when I tell them this. Motorcraft FL-1A is the only thing I will run. Most of the guys I work with agree that Fram is a joke as well.

ever since i've own my olds i've used a fram and never had a problem with them everytime i changed my oil, the filter always had oil in it. maybe i was just lucky with them

Well it only happened once and the car is a daily driver. Needless to say I was a tad worried but had figured it was something to do with the filter as I've heard bad things about them. Thanks guys

I never use fram.I use either Wix or Motorcraft FL-1A on the 3.8 and it will be the same on the 5.0

Wix only, and aren't the Napa platinum super golds expensive. I think the Wix 51515 is like 4-5 bucks.

walmart sells motorcraft oil and filters, and there pretty cheap like 3-4 bucks

K&N are really good filters too. But stay away from Fram. A friend was telling me that one of his co-workers used a fram that failed and fram ended up buying him a new engine. Just a huge hastle that can be easily avoided.

K&N is the best ive ever tried, they cost too much though so im going with the motorcrafts now.

I changed the oil on my car once and used the fram filter. When I started it it immediately started knocking like hell so I pulled the filter off and also had no oil in it. I put on a motorcraft one and it ran like a champ. I'm not sure what the problem was with the Fram filter but it almost destroyed my engine.
