if its a valve as in intake or exhaust valve it could cost thousands.

Well I dont know about where you live but down here in Florida we have a place called Capital Motors and thats all they do is rebuild heads. If you take them off and bring them to them they will do it for around 180 a head ... but there might be other charges too.... so yea its going to cost a pretty peny if you dont know how to take them off or put them back on once you have them rebuilt. If you are going to buy 4v heads... forget it... you might as well suck it up and do it cause it aint going to get any cheaper any time soon.... GOOD LUCK.

somehow i managed to blast my spark plug right out of my block. it shattered my coil pack and actuallty broke the spark plug in half. i had to re tap my spark plug cylinder and replaced the plug and coil pack....the best part is its a completely stock motor...has this happened to anybody else? So i replaced everything and it still has a small misfire. Im thinkin its because i was dumb and drove it to the shop. and because there was no compression or combustion in the cylinder where the spark plug was it fried one of my valves or whats worse ****ed up my piston...does this sound accurate? Anybody else have any ideas?

What's what I'm wondering. Maybe when he/someone replaced them, they cross-threaded or tightened them too much. Who knows?

Are you for sure it is the valve? I just got mine back. They were certain it was the valve at first, but FORD decided to run a few extra tests before a complete tear down (saved a lot f money). Before they did anythign they were able to determine that I had a busted rocker arm. That cost me about $550.00 on everything, plus I had to have few few things re-tightened on the SC.

But before they knew what was wrong, they were talking $1500.00 on the valve. It hurts to hear, I know.

i wasnt quite sure how that happens to a car that isnt modded either. how can u determine if it is just a busted rocker arm

blowing plugs out is totally common on these motors. its an inherent problem, due to the cylinder head design. if you look there are only 3 or 4 threads that hold in the spark plug. the plugs loosen on their own and blast out. i know its a huge problem on 03/04 cobras.

i would ahve them do a leakdown test. the leakdown test will tell you a lot more than a compression test

That is interesting that you are saying it is a major problem with the 03/04 cobras that the plugs pop off, I am not an expert but I have not heard anything about the 03/04 cobras having this issue with spark plugs. Earlier models I have heard have the ticking from the cylinder heads (which is from poor design I think) which requires a replacement of the heads and others seem to have problems moving heat around in the rear #8 cylinder and sometimes can cause the teflon on the piston to melt, aka bad.

This is new hearing that the plugs pop off.

i read a few threads on svtp about it. it happens a lot on CVs and the F-series with the mod motors. the inherent bad design of the heads is the cause of hte plugs blowing out.

hey moody u say cylinder 8? and something about melting teflon....i shot out the sparkplug second from the rear on the passengers side...u think that might be the case here?

for the most part the problem is in the 5.4 motors.. esp. the lightings..

never personally seen a cobra or gt puke a plug out yet...

Well the valve it self is a big time pain to get to. You have to remove the cam to get to it. Meain gyou have to remove the timing chain. Thats a good deal of work there. Although thats not too hard, its mostly puting it back together thats the hard part.
... ANyways. Removing the valve, I believe requires a special compression tool. Its a little tough.

If you do it your self it might take ya a couple of days, and your car will be otta commission.

you have to more than remove the cam. you gotta pull the head. meaning you will need new headgaskets and new headbolts(ours are one time use only).

a leakdown test will tell you where there is a leak in the combustion chamber. generally shops here charge 1.5-2 hours for one.
