i thought zo6's went for the 60k range? not to mention i read that these were getting an insane markup anyway.

I was talking to another Salesman again last night waiting for my buddy to get out of work and he confirmed the black box. He said basically the biggest thing is the cost of the repairs to the car, as a dealer they don't want to be doing $5,000 warentee work brake jobs knowing you have been at the track all day ect.

But he said the rumors are true. It is tied into the navigation system. and "Big Bro Is Watching You"

Big brother shouldn't have to watch you. If it's bona fide warranty work then it should be covered. If it's wear and tear from racing on a track you should have enough integrity not to take it back to the dealer and try to scam them for warranty work. When some people are dishonest it starts costing everyone (black boxes, more expensive vehicles, higher service fees etc). Not saying that you personally would do it but I see this mentality on these types of forums all the time. Guys want to mod their cars, race them all weekend on a strip or road track, then think their clutch, brake, and other driveline repairs should be fixed for free under the warranty.

But with any performance mods I don't think it's hard to "prove" the mods caused the problem.

If the problem has anything to do with the drivetrain all the dealership has to argue is that the extra power as a result of the performance mods put too much stress on the drivetrain component and caused a failure. Whether that's what really caused the problem or not, it'd be extremely difficult to fight.

you're right on that. But a lot of stealerships will just void out a whole warranty for stupid crap. A while back ford tried to void my warranty for installing a catback, o/r hpipe, my warranty claim was that the seat was messing up when i would try to use the latch to raise it forward. This was back in '03 i think.

but lets face it, i have owned 4 mustangs and have had extensive mods put in 3/4 of them and the only warranty claims i have ever had to do was stupid crap like the seat and door panels and other stupid crap. I would think a vette would be the same. We all hear about horror stories on the internet about how 1 vehicle messes up and everyone thinks they are a trashy lemon.

However my dad's '07 superduty has gone through 3 transmissions.

I got both of those MSRP's from the actual Chevrolet and Nissan USA websites.

The Z06 was cheaper last year, in the high 60's I believe. The MSRP is going to be more expensive next year too.

That's why I used the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price and not whatever some dealer marked up his cars in whatever state he's in. Dealer markup is not a reliable price to use in comparisons.

This is also the first year of the GT-R, give it one or two more and the marked up price will go down.

Saw my first one in person today - very nice!

Talked with the owner and he confirmed that at least here in Canada, the GPS blackbox/nanny is active and recording your every move. The warranty depends on you playing nice.

Warranty? I don't need no stinking warranty?

At less than 100 miles I dropped my '08 installing Eibach Pro springs and with less than 3K on the clock I installed a KB 2.6L intercooled SC. Next is a brake upgrade to be followed by a Livernois stroked short block. I bought my GT to mod, not for the drivetrain warranty. And as far as $80K for a Toyota... I don't think so.

But under full disclosure - my wife does drive an Infinity.

Black boxes have been in cars for years....I don't know why people worry about them with regard to the Patriot Act? The fact is they have been used in accident reconstruction to determine the causes of accidents for years.

If you are concerned about warranties don't race or mod your car in a way that places warranty liabilities on an auto maker, or don't buy a car with a built in tracking and data recording device.

The Patriot Act is a whole different animal. The CIA, FBI and Homeland security do not care about your car or how you use it. They only care about you if you pose a threat to national security.

If they or anyone wants to know everything about you it would take about 10 seconds to apply for any Americans Tax returns and get your address, income, job, age, race....your military records to get your blood type, training....Your driving record to profile your behavior....and this is all public information accessible thanks to The Freedom of Information Act, signed by Lyndon Johnson in 1966.

Everyday you are taped on surveillance cameras everywhere you go in public. If they want to track you all they have to do is follow you or put a gps tracker on your car....Privacy in public places is not a constitutional right....Hence the word PUBLIC.

Drive your car, don't be paranoid, obey the warranty limitations and enjoy the fun or forget the warranty if you can afford it.

Racing the Z06 also voids its warranty, the same applies to the GT500 and Challenger SRT-8.
