Friend's AFR 185, Cam Motion, Victor 5.0 setup is on the dyno right now!

Just got a call, it did 294 rwhp, 273 rwtq (edit, final numbers below) on a Dynojet, SAE, no real tuning yet other than moving the rev limiter! The best part is thats through a C4 with a 3500 stall, on ET STREETs with 15 psi in them on the dyno. With a 5 speed and street tires, it would probably make 320-330 or so!

Combo is a

Std Bore 302 w/ Probe Pistons (flycut), girdle, believed to be balanced
AFR 185's, out of the box
Panhandle Stage 3 Ported Victor 5.0 Intake
Cam Motion Cam, .224/.232 .538/.541 112
75mm TB
SCT 90 (or 95mm? cant remember) MAF
Mac Longtubes
Mac Prochamber
Mac Pro Dumps

No P/S
No AC
Electric Fan

Car is about to be tuned a bit more, has an SCT Chip, it peaked at 6100 and carried it to 6400 so far. It has a full Aeromotive Fuel System and a NX Plate Kit between the upper and lower so it should make alot more today if the block stays together!

UPDATE: 298 rwhp and 276 rwtq
 
Heads too big??? Pfft, maybe too low compression for those heads, but on a victor intake'd car I think those heads are perfect. My dream combo is a ported out the ass cobra intake(just to keep the plate kit I have now, could upgrade I guess) afr 185 heads, and a custom cam+ top that off with a 200 shot... :drool: Should make 350 with 11:1 comp

Those are pretty good numbers. I'd be happy!
 
That is a different combination:) I like different sometimes...

The only thing I see that is not being "used" is the Stage 3 ported Victor 5.0L. That is meant for much more rpm and/or displacement.
 
Torque seems way off.

I made 285tq on basicly stock motor. (pullies and catback)

that would be due to the huge heads and stage three ported victor. Too big of ports and too much flow kills torque. thats why i commencted earlier stating these numbers were mediocure at best.A stock stang is 300 tq, now even if you go with a high estimate of 30tq loss for the automatic thats still 270 at the wheels, So your only gaining 8 pounds of torque?
 
Definately not a torque monster but should run good at the track. Maybe a low 12s, high 11s car... We only dynoed my dads 91 on ET Streets with 12-15 psi in them, and his tossed down very similar power with a LOT more tq. Granted it was a very different set up, but this combo definately needs more cubes to use the heads and intake.

The head size is fine, you DONT NEED 165's on a 302, this is why LS1's PISS on the average 5.0 guy, everybody is stuck in the 90's! Whats killing the torque is the intake more than anything, it's only ported because it came off of a car with a blower and nitrous. Oh yea, this car will have both by the end of the week. :)

Low torque doesnt mean alot, it's a 302, which is a PISSANT sized V8, if you want a tractor pull motor, a 302 isnt it! It has a 3800 stall (3500 was a typo), 3.73's, a transbrake, a plate kit and now a blower lol. Although the intake is hurting it some. The car is gonna stay wound up the whole time during a race anyway.

Hell most people think you only need 185's on a 331, my buddy's 331 proved that theroy wrong with AFR 205's, N91 Cam, Systemax Intake, it traped 95+ MPH in the 1/8 in a full weight lx hatch.
 
Keep in mind an auto car will show a BIG torque number on the dyno if you let it flash, dont think they did this on the car but in the real world. It also has 110 race gas in it for the nitrous which is not helping it at all, would probably do 305+ on street tires and pump gas. With a stick, I could see an easy 330-340 rwhp. That converter is eating some power. The car also isnt a big compression setup, compression = torque. The pistons had to be flycut, so it's probably 9:1 or 9.1:1 or so

It would be better optimized with an intake swap but that wont matter by the end of the week!
 
If thats what you think then great,thas all that matters. But i wil bet you that a 165 head and smaller intake would have netted more hp and tq. but hey guess we will never know

Forget the torque, you will never get a true reading through an auto more than likely on a chassis dyno and even if it reads low, when it flashes off the transbrake it's gonna be multiplying torque like a *******ugger.

Look how many 165 head cars with hci struggle to make 290-300 rwhp through a STICK SHIFT. Autos arent dyno queens. My buddy's 98 Z28 would lose 30-40 rwhp when the converter was unlocked vs locked. Let alone comparing outright to a stick shift. Hell another buddy's 03 Cobra made 644 rwhp through a 6 speed, only made low 500's through a Lentech 4R70W with a non lockup 2800 stall.

We figured between the c4, tires, race gas, it would maybe do 260 rwhp.

The car that the trans and converter came out of was a 347, Vortech T Trim, 150 shot car, it only made 724 through the auto but ran 5.7@122+ in the 1/8 with a BLOWN HEAD GASKET.

There arent exactly alot of HCI 302 setups being dynoed with big converter C4 setups to go off of and just one difference in a converter can show a big difference on the dyno.
