Front Coil Problems

I have am building a 65 fastback restomod and need some advice on the front coil springs. I ordered 1" drop springs from Canadian Mustang and have installed them only to find that the ride height is extremely high. I have about 3 inches between the top of tire and the fender lip. This is with a 1" upper control arm drop. Did they send me the wrong spring? I do have a lighter power plant - 347 stroker with aluminum heads, intake and fiberglass hood but figure that these mods are not enough to affect the ride height this much. Do I need to start trimming the coils? The car is not yet completely put back together but it is only missing bumpers, interior, fluids, some glass etc. The engine and trans are in. I expected that the engine and trans would bring the front down a bit but don't seem to doing much to drop things.

Did you get the 1" insulators, or the standard 1/4" ones"

Also, the car may settle quite a bit after you drive it!

I think one important question is,,,, What size tires/wheels do you have?

Another is... what angle is the bottom of the rocker panel sitting at?

You can always cut a section of spring off, to lower the car.

Don't cut the coils before you drive the car!!

You'd be surprised how much it will drop just driving around the block.

DO yourself a BIG FAVOR, don't do a damn thing until it is all together and you've taken it around the block a few times. Your chasing a problem that doesn't yet exist.

Looks like one of those Edelbrock or Holley fuel injection systems....

exactly, even after i put mine on the ground and jumped on each fender to settle the springs, it still dropped about an 1" after driving around the block, plus the bushings need time to settle and wear in too. now mine is looowwwwwww, it looks sweet though.

This is 1" shelby drop with 1" drop coils on 14" rims with 195/60R14 front tires.

When I lowered my stang, it dropped to the correct height at once. Here is some pictures from that. On page 6 in that link, the bottom picture is taken just after it was backed out from the garage. No other driving. My car also has Aluminium heads, but it doesn't effect the ride height at all.

I would call the shop ypu ordered from, send thwm the pictures, and ask them if they could have sent the wrong springs. But don't cut them, because then you cant return/trade them.

my 1 inch lowering springs with the proper insulators didnt move my car at all. I ended up using the negative wedge kit and cutting a half of a coil off. I now grab a little bit of tire running 17inch rims. I may come down a little bit more but I am going to finishup the body first

Thanks for the input everyone. I think that I will hold off until I drive the car before cutting anything but:
1. I have spoken with the supplier of the springs and they are not being too helpful.
2. Where can I find out more about the negative wedge kit? Not familiar with this.
3. The intake is a SDS system from Western Motorsports (www.westernmotorsports.ca) using a custom Victor manifold and accufab throttle body.
4. Tires up front are P225/45/R17 on Ford Racing silver bullet wheels.

Search here, Negative wedge. I just did. Lots of good info. Thanks for reply on intake. Never heard of that set up.
