Front Coil Spring Noise,why?

i HAVE A '69 that I had installed new front springs,saddle mounts and top rubber rings. Since then I have a clunking type noise when car is in motion,turning,etc. It seems like the coils are trying to rotate in upper perch. I have had springs out and changed top rings with no help. Has anyone ever encountered this? It's driving me crazy trying to find it! Tom [email protected]

I also have a pop in my front end that I have been trying hard to find. At one time it was my upper control arm moving on it shaft. One of the end caps kept comming loose. I got a new upper arm and shaft and that fixed that problem.

Still the pop in my front end remains. I thought I had it traced to my strut rods, and I replaced the bushings on them with a set of the fancy ones from Global West. That made the car handle much much better but backing out of the driveway, with the wheel turned nearly to lock, I heard the pop again.

I have no idea where that pop is coming from. I wish I could be under the car looking at stuff when it did it but I cant fit under my stang when it's on the ground and I haven't been doing 8 minute abs enough to let the car role over my belly.

maybe your spring perches.
even though your spring perch's are new they have very limited movement. When they dont move as everything else moves, you'll have clunks, clanks and a rough ride.
You may want to consider upgrading to the bronze bushed "rollerized" or the sealed bearing type. Believe it or not they make a world of a difference for any type of driving. I was skepticle before I purchased them, but now I preach about them .As soon as I left my driveway, I felt them working. night/day difference .smoooooth movement.

could you possibly have left something loose? Shock maybe? Not real familiar with this car. Sorry

there are little bosses or tabs on the perches. if the springs ends do not meet up and sit into the saddles correctly they will pop. You may have put hte springs in upside down too. When I first rebuild my fron end I found this out when i took it to get alligned and they laughed at me.

the round end (circle)of the spring goes up. then twist spring by hand until end coil is at the stop tab on the spring perch.

Hey,sure appreciate the info. I have heard that some of oem parts don;t work well. I didn't have this problem before. I know the springs are in correct. I'll look into your ideas. I'll let you know the results! Thanx,Tom

To test if the noise is the perches, you can take the shocks out and drive the car at low speeds over bumps and driveways. It could be that the bottom of the shock is slipping around in the perch and making the noise. With the shock out, the perch won't rotate at all like it does with the shock in place. The shock is what rotates the perch, not the spring.

Something like that happened to me after I lowered my car. I had no squeek before I cut the coils, put the front end back together, set the car down and when I pushed down on the fender to seat the springs I heard a squeek. I thought it might have been a fluke but I was wrong...dead wrong. After A LOT of searching I found it. It turned out to be the 1 1/18" sway bar I installed was rubbing the subframe when the car was on the ground, if you've seen my car you know why it was so hard to see. It was a really easy fix but hard to find.
The way I found it was by having a couple friends over pushing on the car while I and another friend layed on the ground looking for the squeek.
