Front shocks...

Should my KYB's move through the entire range of motion of the front suspension? When I was putting on some spindles last night, I realized that the front suspension was "hanging" on the shocks when I jacked the front end up. Not just a little, I mean it was more like 4-5 inches. Is that the way it is supposed to work? I can imagine what would happen if I were to do a "Bullit" chase scene one day, get airborne and have my shock towers rip right out before I land and tear them out. I mean things like ripping apart shock towers should happen in a specific sequence. Ya know what I mean...

If you still had spindles, brakes,etc... on and the shocks were keeping it from dropping, you might have something wrong. Do you have all of the bushings installed at the lower mounting point? Are the shocks adjustable?

my KYB's would bottom out well before full suspension extension also. It was good in a way, becuase otherwise the short 620 coils would have fallen out everytime I jacked the car up.

Yeah, I have the 620 drop springs, so I suppose those, with the roller perches, they would probably just fall away on a big jump.

I have the same shocks and notice that last weeked when replacing my uppper control arms.

I had the front end off the ground, undid the shocks from the top then removed the two bottom nuts on the shock and the suspension jerked down an inch or two.. Scared the living crap out of me since my hands were in there and my face was about 6 inches away from the spring which I could have sworn was going to fly out at me.

I guess thats why the manual said to place the jack stand under the lower control arm(so that the suspension is compressed). I thought it meant to place it under the cam bolt where the lower arm bolts to the frame.
