Front Strut Problem

Ok, so here is my problem, If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

I have a 2000 GT conv. this summer I lowered it with the eibach spring kit. I also added Maximum Motorsport caster camber plates.

About 2 weeks ago I added Tokico Illumina front struts, replacing the original equipment. It was recommended that I use the 94 - 98 models due to the lowered suspension. Since replace them I now have a frame rattling BANG! that happens on bumps or road dips. The car seems to handle the bumps and pot holes fine but it is the dips and such in the road that will actually cause this problem.

Any and all suggestion are welcome.

Which eibach springs did you put on? Also why did you use 94-98 model struts? They make shocks/struts that are designed for your model year with the springs you are using. It could be that the struts for the 94-98 models don't fit your 2000 model.

the 94-98 are 1" shorter I due belive? thus giving you more piton travel. this is what I have read. I have never actaully done it. I have been trying to figure out if it should really be done or not.

I think either you mean you have the 87-93 struts. The 94 and newer are all the same. If you got some meant for a 96-97 then they are probably bottoming out on the big dips. HOWEVER,my car is lowered 2.5 inches and have never bottomed out,even with the factory struts still in place.

Does the bang seem to come from the front of the car or can you isolate it?
Did you use the bump stop Eibach sends in their kit(for the rearend)? This may need to be trimmed. I had to do the same thing, because my car bottomed out on dips. Just a thought...let us know when you figure it out.

red2000gt is correct. 94-98 struts are identical to 99-04 struts. the 87-93 struts are 1" shorter.

I'll second that !

My next set will be 87-93 for my 2000 GT ! I don't know who told you about the 94-98 but he was wrong.

I get that huge bang as well once in a while. It's not the car bottoming out, but the spring blasting the control arm and wheel (front) back into full extention because it happens on the rebound, not compression.

Solution: Slow down over bigger bumps.

me too...me too...

I've got Eibach Springs, Steeda (Ford) CC plates, Tokico 79-93 struts and a big clunk from the right front on 'rebound' (when the wheels goes down)...it's driving me nuts...BTW it's only when the right wheel drops, never the left

Sorry, I stand corrected it is the 87-93 shock that was recomended to me by my performace shop owner. Because the car is lowered Tokico does not recoomend using the original equipment length for some reason. I am using the Eibach pro-kit with all the equipment bump stops, etc.....

That is what I believe my problem is! The MM caster cambers allow for great adjustment with adding and removing shimes to raise and lower the strut but i am at the last 1/4" shim and i am still getting it on really big dips. I was just looking to see if anyone else has the problem and how they went about fixing it, because sometimes i think that the whole wheel is comming throught the floor panel

the modified MacPherson struts are just not ideal for lowering. Its hard to get rid of the extra NVH epecially on dips, bumps, and potholes. there is a reason why our stangs look like 4x4s stock.

Fred Mills at Steeda told me to get fox body front struts and sn-95 shocks on the back.
