I need to replace the grommet on the tank that the filler tube goes into, my question is, do I need to drop the tank or can this be done without dropping the tank?? It’s a 92 btw!

Thanks

You'll need to partially lower it down enough to slip the fuel filter neck out

Watch out for fuel spillage, you will get it everywhere even if theres a little in there. The filler neck inserts right in the middle of the side of it.

Yeah, I’ve dropped the tank before, was hoping I didn’t have to to replace the stupid grommet

took out interior of trunk (coupe) and unbolted filler neck and all related pieces then pulled filler neck out of gas tank enough to remove the vapor seal (grommet). easy peasy. that was the root of my evap leak when i did smog.

I tried everyway I could to get the filler neck out without dropping the tank, was not gonna happen and I had to drop it a couple inches, I would suggest getting the body gasket too, lmr has a kit with the tank seal, body gasket and the gasket at the top of the filler neck, do it all and done.
