Hello all,

Can you guys tell me if the fuel filter is located above the gas tank or is it in the engine compartment on a 2000GT, also what tools do I need to switch it out, am I going to have to clamp off the lines?

Please let me know either way. Thank you.

Its mounted behind the rear bumper. Jack up the rear of the car and
put it on jack stands and you can easily get to it. You will need a
gas line release tool. The tool comes in a pack of 4 or 5 different
versions.... but believe me with out the little plastic tool you will
not get it out. when you release the toward engine side first, wrap a
good sized towel or rag around it because some gas is coming out.

Hello again,

Thank God I was right and now my roommate has to feel like a giant douche for telling me it was in the engine compartment and all you needed was a screwdriver. I hope he falls down the stairs. Would this solve the problem of backfires and not starting on the first try?

Thanks for your help.

actually, it's INFRONT the gas tank. you can use the little plastic disk-like tool like Streethorse mentioned or you can use this thing:
