fuel filter removal

Just picked up the tool to change my fuel filter. My question is, do I have to push the fuel pump shut off button under the trunk before I try to remove it? I know it is under pressure but can I just go under the car and pull it off with with out shutting off the fuel?

To let the pressure out pull use a flathead screwdrive and push in the schrader valve that's on the fuel rail. Of course, place a rag over it when you do so you don't get hosed. Once the pressure has bled off you cna get under and change the filter.

One note. If you turn the key on for any reason after you release the pressure at the rail be sure and release it again before disconnect the fuel lines underneath.

Another way is to pull the fuel pump fuse and then start the car. Let the car run until it quits, then you are set...

I believe the button you're referring to is actually a reset button and will not release the pressure. You have to disconnect the connection back there. This will do what you need it to. Still, you'll end up with a facefull of petrol.

i just gave the fuel pump impact shut off box a good whack in the trunk, drivers side rear corner. this shuts off fuel pump and ran the car till it died essentially removing all fuel pressure.

don't know if this is the recommended way, but it worked for me.

That's correct. You have to disconnect the wire connector to the reset button and then run the car until it runs out of gas (takes about 1 second on mine). Then when you unhook the fuel filter a small amount of gas will still spill out.... so watch your eyes.

You don't have to do any of that. All you have to do is release the pressure on the drivers side fuel rail and then change the filter. Should only take 15 min total. Just did mine yesterday.
