Fuel gauge

When i first start the car my fuel gauge reads fine then after about 5 min or so it drops to empty. I have had this problem for about 5 years now and last year when i changed the fuel pump for a 190 i looked over all the connections and everything was good.

Well, your fuel pump isn't the problem. You have a defective float.

Easy replace job.

ya i changed the fuel pump for the s/c but thought when i was there mightjust look to see if anything was coming off. Can i just buy a sending unit last time i asked at dap they looked at me like i was crazy.

Sending unit would fix it. I don't know what "dap" is, but I know for a fact AutoZone has them.

discount auto zone i thought the float rubs along a winding of copper wire that changes resistance and that is what the gauge runs on thought that was the sending unit.

autozone has it but i with i new for sure that wasthe problem and nothing in my dash.

Get your sending unit from Ford for $67.26 Part #E7zz-9275-A.

While you are at it get a new filler neck seal for $16.22 Part #F4zz-9072-DA.

the only bad thing is the last time i went to drop the tank one of the bolts was just spinning. So when i did the pump i had a bitch of a time cuz i couldent drop the tank all the way.

just replaced my sending unit($57 from Ford with my i know someone at he dealer because i used to work there discount) and i come to find out its most likely my anti slosh chip in the cluster.... sucks because i basically threw away the money... oh well i have a new one in there now.... so was it your sending unit or the A/S?
