I recently bought a 93 notch with 30# injectors and I noticed that even after a short drive one of the injectors leak between the fuel rail and the injector. Enough to make a small puddle on the lower intake.

1. Does anyone know the cause?
2. Best way to fix?

Thanks everyone.

BTW I figured the leak is between the fuel rail and the injector because the entire injector is wet from top to bottom.

There is an O-ring on the top of the injector where it sits in the rail...there is also one on the bottom where it sits in the manifold. Get a set of o-rings, pull off the upper intake and rail, pull out each injector and replace all 16 o-rings.

That was my guess but I'm new to the 5oh.
Do I have to remove the upper intake to get to the passanger side fuel rail?
If I do, do I have to buy a new gasket too?

Its great to know that help is still one click away on stangnet! :SNSign:
Thanks.

I am pretty sure that you will need to remove the upper intake in order to take the fuel rail off. But if it is only one injector, and you are very clever with tools, you MIGHT be able to remove the rail bolts and pop the rail off that one injector. I am sure someone will chime in.

I am pretty sure you will need to remove the intake to gain access though. Personally, I would go ahead and do it anyway and replace all the o-rings. If one is leaking, then you can be sure the others are starting to dry out and could start leaking shortly.

If I were you...and this is just my opinion...I would pick up the intake gasket and 16-orings, can't be more than $15 for everything. Then go ahead and replace all the o-rings and gasket. For the few dollars and hour or so it will take you...you might as well be safe.

Fuel injector seal kits with 2 O rings and a pintle cap (Borg-Warner P/N 274081) are available at Pep Boys auto parts. Cost is about $2.74 per kit.. The following are listed at the Borg-Warner site ( http://www.borg-warner.com ) as being resellers of Borg-Warner parts:

http://www.partsplus.com/ or http://www.autovalue.com/ or http://www.pepboys.com/ or http://www.federatedautoparts.com/

Most of the links above have store locators for find a store in your area.

Use motor oil on the O rings when you re-assemble them & everything will slide into place. The gasoline will wash away any excess oil that gets in the wrong places and it will burn up in the combustion chamber.

The pintle caps hold the O ring in place and keep it from sliding off and into the manifold. If the correct pintle caps are used, they do not have any effect on the injector spray pattern.

The pintle caps fit either injectors with a pin sticking out the injector end or 4 with more tiny holes in the injector end

Heating the pintle caps in boiling water makes it much easier to install them.
