Fuel Pressure gauge on scrader valve did not open valve

No reading

No gas comes out when I unscrew it

It seems the little metal piece designed to press on aND open the schrader valve is too short.

Any experience with this?

I may be completely wrong, but, you may have to take the actual valve (pin) out..

Somebody correct me on this...

is this a diagnostic gauge or permanent?

If diagnostic, the pin inside the guage's line should push the Schrader core.

It's permanent...and the directions say:

"This gauge kit does not require the removal of the internal valve inside the service port. The special adapter fitting attaches directly to the port and will automatically actuate the valve".

I see the pin. It is not long enough I guess. I tightened it on there as much as I dared. When I removed it to reinstall it again no drops of fuel came out. (But it does if I press on the valve)

Directions also say:

"Screw adapter onto the service port hand tight and then 1/4 turn more. Over-tightening will damage the afdapter's internal seal.

I don't get it. Maybe I should remove the valve and give it a try...is that dangerous? I mean any more dangerous than leaving the valve in with a gauge attached?

Go to any tire shop, have them remove the valve core and bring your gauge with you to slap it on.

Yeppers. It is generally called a valve-core removal-tool.

What is the pressure reading with the key on, motor off vs. motor on.

I wanted to know if I'm in the ball park when I get it on there again tomorrow without the valve this time.

Think I should use teflon on the valve threads? Directions have me using teflon on all the fittings but that one...

I heard it should be 40 while driving


Is it less when key on motor off?

What if it is at 36 pounds like someone else posted theirs reads earlier...

Pressure with the vac line off and capped is ~38-39 PSI.

WIth the vac line on the car (like it normally is), pressure over 30 PSI is fine (usually 30-33 PSI).

Thanks once again for all your help...

This was only one mod in a whirlwind of stuff I have done to the car in recent weeks...you guys helped me learn whatever I didn't already know. KUDOS

The car will be a daily driver again starting after Labor day. It is in the best condition (and faster) than it has ever been in the last 17 years I have owned it.

Next step will be body work...what do you guys do for your body and paint. My area body shops want nothing to do with it...they like the new car insurence work. They are so busy they couldn't care less about me. One guy had the nearve to tell me to sell it!!
