Avoid using flammable substitutes for the oil such as starting fluid, propane brake cleaner or throttle body cleaner. Fire is an excellent hair removal agent, and no eyebrows is not cool...
Carb/brake cleaner work ok, but these engines are full of vac lines and it's difficult, time consuming and expensive to keep soaking every part of the engine. I actually used that method originally, but it wasn't until I smoked the system that I found a cracked intake, leaky TB and EGR. Smoke machine is fast and pretty easy.
Also, on a side note, I remember reading a safety report on chemicals found in a mechanic shop a few years ago. I don't recall the exact numbers, but let's say the 2nd most dangerous chemical was rated at a "level 5", the #1 most dangerous was brake cleaner at a level 40! Stuff is bad news if you don't use it correctly, but makes for good wasp spray.

You are correct.
However not everyone is as cautious and conscientious as you are, hence the generic warning.
I prefer the non flammable Perchloroethylene based products. I'll take my chances with the ozone layer thinning danger before the danger of using some highly inflammable spray product.
You are right about the wasp spray. I have never seen anything make wasps drop out of the air in mid flight like the Perchloroethylene based brake cleaner does. They use the same stuff when they dry clean your clothes. It does a great job of getting grease spots out.
New info- smoked system again last night with air intake removed and a plastic bag over TB (sometimes hard to see smoke when smoke ends up pouring out of air filter behind fender.
So, my new TPS that came installed on my new BBK 65mm TB seems to be leaking? There is a hole between the two screws on top of the TPS. Smoke appears to be coming out of this area. I still have the stock TPS (no center hole) and a new BBK TPS (with center hole) that I can try. Figured I'd get any thoughts first. Does this seem odd? Doesn't appear to be a huge leak, but I'm sure based on location would impact my idle.
