fuel pressure regulator, return or no return

I am running a 91' 5.0 engine with a carb conversion in my 85 notch. The swap was already done when i bought The car. It has a Mallory 140 gph fuel pump with a Mallory two port returnless pressure regulator set at 7 psi. I was told that restricting a pump that size without a return will burn up the pump. Any truth to this?? I would hate to burn up the pump if I can avoid it !!

140 gallons per hour? for real?
it must do pretty well at the strip.

Uh.... No, The motor is basically stock. 14.30 on 225/60/15 tires. lots of wheel spin. but any way. I looked this pump up in summit it is listed as MAA-4140. This pump will flow way more fuel than my engine could ever dream of burning,But the regulator turns it down a bunch. this is why I ask.. Will the pump be damaged without a return line. Anyone know?? Please help

what i was getting at, is that it would be helpful to know how much the pump really flows. if it is something more than 10 psi (since we are not doing well on the flow rate/time ), i would use a different pump or a return-line set up, myself.
