Installed a 255 in-tank yesterday and car ran fine. Drove it 10 miles today with no problems. Jumped in tonight and hit the key and she won't start. Checked my fuel pressure guage and it's at 0. No fuel pump sound when key is turned either.

Question is: Is there a relay or fuse I could check first before dropping the tank again? I checked the inertia switch and it's fine. Thanks for any help!!!

First off, nice car I have the 92 Calypso hatch as well . The fuel pump relay is under your MAF on the passenger side strut tower, make sure you have power coming in and out of the relay with the car turned on.

there is no fuse, but a fusable link. it is off the starter solenoid. also check your inertia switch. FP relay info already given. good luck.

Checked the inertia switch and it's good. The relay under the MAF, how do I check it? I've located 2 of them. I think? Is it the 4 wire box (2 of them) that lookz like it's capped? I already hit the key and tested them with a test light. One box has power on 2 wires and the other only has power on one. Don't know what to do? Which one is the correct one to check?

on the FP relay, IIRC pink/blk is the output to the pump.
tan/lt grn should be ground from the puter (use a DMM to test it)
orange/lt blue is power feed (from fusible link at starter solenoid).
red/blk is from inertia switch.
your colors may be different since your car is newer. good luck.

Thanks HISSIN!!!
Dropped the tank and checked the pump today, jumped it with a battery and she's good. The relay was the problem. Baught a new one at Checkers but when I got back to the house it was the wrong one. I pulled the relay off the other identical one and now the car is fine. Can someone tell me what the other relay is for??? It is identical to the fuel pump relay. Thought maybe it was for the wipers, horn, or A/C but they all work fine. Any ideas? Thanks!!!

no problem, bud. i wish the other guy in here with similar problems had found such an easy solution (he is on his second thread, and im about out of ideas). i feel bad for him.

if the other relay was on the pass side strut tower (also), it is the WOT relay. the one thing i know it does is kill the a/c when you floor it. so you were right about it being for A/C, you just did not know it.

switch the caps for the 2 relays and see if it solves your problems. if it works, then you had a bad relay.

no problem! glad you got it all fixed up.

if you get a chance and can help a fellow stanger out, Mathew has a 92 and is having trouble finding the FP relay. mine is under the seat, but his might be under the Mass air meter. but i dont know exactly where it is (never looked for the relay on a 92+ in real life). maybe you can describe it for him (he has been having a real time with this).

Well blew another relay today
Luckily I have a nitrous kit and I used that relay to get me home. You ever heard of a problem like this after a 255 in-tank install???

this is kind of a new one on me. as im tryin to think about it, i dont see how an overload of one of the coil terminals could affect anything (if that were the problem).
and you are not burning fusible link(s), so i am kinda stumped. i have not ever heard of anyone needing to do any wiring upgrade with a 255.

if you were using your WOT relay for your FP (for now), im wondering the odds of having two relays poop out in a row (but cant figure out how they would nuke either). when overloaded (in my experience) they tend to not kick on (needing you to tap them, etc).
so im trying to say that im not sure. if i did not post it yet (or if Jrichker did not), here is the FP schematic (courtesy of TMoss):
http://www.veryuseful.com/mustang/tech/engine/images/fuel-alt-links-ign-ac.gif

the upper left quadrant of the diagram has most of the good stuff for the FP. if you blew the relay quickly, i might try to test the terminals and see what you got (and/or test the relay for fun - i like to so i know what exactly failed). hopefully someone smarter than i will chime in; im sorry that im not much help....best of luck!

Hey, thanks for that link braddah!!! Don't know what the prob could be

Posted on corral and a guy told me the relays are 15 amp relays that max at 30 and that the pump pulls 30 amps and to install bigger relays. Dunno if thier overloading with the bigger pump or jus by coincidence they blew.... I don't know anybody that had this problem with relays after a 255 install. Has myself and my main mechanic friend stumped. Went to checkers and picked up 2 relays and installed em'. We'll see how long these last. Wish me luck!

sounds good. unfortunately, im not too up on what is needed for pump upgrades. i would not have thought that a bigger pump would draw more juice. in fact i would think that perhaps it would draw less (duty cycles and all that stuff). but that is merely the goop floating around in my tired head - no known theory there. guys like Joe, TMoss, Id Witheld, M. Yount, Hllon et al, are much much smarter than i am with electrical engineering and theory.

one thing i might ask on your other thread (at the Corral): since you are apparently drawing more juice with the new pump, and we know how Ford seems to use the bare minimum (at best) gauge wiring (AWG), will any wires or fusible links fry with your apparent increased amperage draw....

you can get 40 Amp SPDT relays pretty easily, if that is what you need.

again, sorry im not much more help; ill defer to the smarter folks in here and elsewhere (i wish i could post in the Corral, but for some reason i cant. i have the same username, but have 0 posts cuz i cant). so i dont even go over there, since i get frustrated when i want to share something and cant.

good luck - let us know how it goes....take care.
