heres a lil backround guys. this is my first mustang and i cant figure the dang thing out

has 100k on it. headers, CAI and flowmaster exhaust. thats it on the motor

im throwin a check engine light, the car doesnt want to idle when the motor is cold, im getting 142 miles to the tank and i cant rev past 3750. also the car is resitant when you give it gas. you can here it sucking the are in but it wont go anywhere, then it will start to pick up but its still extremely sluggish. Ive tried hooking it up to a computer but it wont respond(i dont mean one of the cheap ones you get at autozone)

thanks yall

Could either be spark or fuel issues. Check spark plugs, plug wires and coil packs. My old 1993 2.3L mustang had a crack in a coil pack, wouldn't idle, wouldn't pick up speed and just didn't respond well at all. Changed out the coil and runs very smooth now.

i know the plusgs are fouled out due to it running so rich.the wires are relatively new. ill have to look at the coil packs tomorrow. but would that throw a code?

My old car didn't, it was OBD I and I think 95's are too but not sure. Running rich will also cause it to be sluggish, so if you know it is, that is part of the problem. Running rich could be bad O2 sensors, and I don't know if those will throw a code or not. OBD-II does.

It kinda sounds like a vaccuum leak. It's too bad you can't find out what trouble code the computer's picking up, cuz that would tell you a lot right there. I'd start with the simple stuff like plugs and coil pack, also the air and fuel filters. A overly rich or lean mixture would throw a code. Mine picked up a lean code a few times before I figured out it had a bad mass air flow sensor and a vaccuum leak in the evaporative system. You can test your coil pack with an ohm meter. The Haynes manual has the specs and tells how to test it. With 100k on it, there's the possibility that it's gone bad.

well when my buddy hooked it up at valvoline he said it came back running lean. im gonna take it up there tomorrow and see if theirs will pick up anything. but y would i be getting 140miles to the tank if it was running lean. wouldn't i be getting better fuel mileage

Ok first of all Yes it is OBD-II. 94-05 V6 mustangs are all OBD-II. Well have you had the head gaskets replaced yet? That could cause the sluggish performance, and the retarded idle. Also if its not that, check your MAF sensor since you said its running real rich and u said u have a CAI. Also if you could give me more information on when it started and what you where doing that might have caused it to start doing this i might be able to help you a bit more.
