fuel pump i dont know if its electrical or the fuel pump is bad

hi i own a 2000 ford mustang gt and i just droped the gas tank. there is no fuel going to the enginge at all. my car is pretty low and i smacked the back on a bump in the road and not the fuel pump will not turn on when i turn the key on any idea? change a fuse or what do i do all help would be appreciated

You need to confirm that the fuel-pump is operable, use the 12 volt battery from your car.

Easiest thing to do first is check the voltage going to the pump. It should be getting voltage when the key is first turned on. I'm sure wmburns will chime in shortly with more details (like which wire, how many volts it should be getting, etc.)

Is there an inertia switch on the newer mustangs? Foxbodys have them and it cuts the power to the pump if it gets a hard hit as described by the OP

From what I read it's in the trunk on the left side behind the trim panel. Most likely has a red button on it to reset it.

Yes, there is an inertia cut off switch. See if it isn't tripped (just push it back in.) Next you can see if you have voltage to the switch and going out of the switch. Should be right around 12 volts.

The Dark Green with Yellow stripe is the incoming voltage (you have to find a body ground to test it) and the out going voltage line to the fuel pump is Pink with a black stripe. If the switch is not thrown than you should get voltage coming out of the Pink with black stripe wire. You have to find your own ground.
