I installed a used tank on a 1990 Mustang LX 5.0 and when I turn the key on I do not hear the fuel pump. Is this normal? The old one was loud as hell! Please let me know. Thanks

does the pump work?

some pumps are quieter than others (seems to be luck of the draw). if you have decent pressure, i would not sweat it. you got lucky.

Sometimes mine is loud (usually till' the engine warms up) and other times it is quiet.

gooch06 - Yeah some seem to be quieter than others...but if you don't notice any hesitation or sputtering after the swap I would say your good to go

Mine was really loud right before it went out. And the new BBK one that I put in was kinda loud too. I can always here it when i turn the key and most of the time when I'm cruzin' at low RPMs... normal I'd say

In my experience if you have a really loud fuel pump you better start looking for a new one. That is usually a sign of a bad pump.

If you have no noise but it pumps then you should be good to go. After I put the tank in I wouldn't fill it up all the way until I was confident about the pump though.
