Fuel pump removal help

I dropped my tank, but how the hell are you suppose to get the fuel lines off the top where the pump goes down. I went to 3 places and nobody ahd the tool needed. If anyone could help me out that would be awesome since right now I can't get the pump out with the lines connected. Mine are braded stainless steel also, those don't come stock do they?

They use a fuel line fitting removal tool. It's sold at just about any automotive shop.

Insert the removal tool into the fitting, then pull off the fitting.

I did mine with the fuel line still connected, just screwed it right off. But it sounds like you have some aftermarket fuel lines of some sort. Autozone and Discount carry should carry a tool for this I've seen them in the store.

thanks guys everyone i talked to on the phones said no and even when I went there and asked. So i went and looked myself and found the tools for $11 They came off in 2 minutes. Thanks again

i'm going to be replacing my pump (with a walbro) soon, do you have a part number or picture of the tool so i know what i need before i start?

fwiw, mine is stock (i think)

Those braided lines are stock, you just need either the plastic ring disconnect tools, or the metal ones that scissor in the middle. The plastic ring ones were a big PITA for me, almost ended up destroying the smaller one trying to take off the return line.

Yup, the metal ones with that are like an X work great. Auto Zone should stock it. They have both of our sizes on it, and it took me 10 seconds go get my lines off with it.

You are lucky they came off so easy. I wrestled with mine for a good 15 minutes just trying to get the tool to engage. Then, of course, when I got it in there releasing the spring, it slid right off like there was noting to it. (Nothing but about 5 solid minutes of swearing at it as I struggled ...). Ahhhh memories .....

Anyway, way to go.

Oh ya, and it does sound like you have aftermarket fuel lines. My stock lines are black rubber.

Yes I did

The a/c and fuel line disconnect tools are a nice thing to have when ever you tinker on the car. Of course I have used them more so for the fuel department than a/c because I don't know anything about a/c...well not enough to work on it
