My mechanical pump bit the bullet yesterday. So I was thinking of using my carter electric pump. I have 2 questions.... 1. Will this be too much pump without a regulator? (car is basically stock - mildly ported heads and hongtubed 82 motor) Also, I mounted the pump right in front of the tank and connected to the new 3/8th rubber line that I ran before. So #2 is - can I force the fuel through the mechanical pump, or do I need to route it past the old pump? THanks for the help.....

you have to check the rating of the pump to see if you need a regulator or not. Call the summit racing tech line and pretend like you are going to buy one and ask them. As for going through the mech pump, i would bypass it as it is only going to be a restriction as well as a fuel heater.

I guess I'll have to check with the guy I got the pump from, as there is no rating on the pump that I can see.... Thanks for the info.....

I'd want a regulator and a pressure gauge to set the pressure to the carb - most require something in the 3-6 psi range. Also, I'd definitely remove the mechanical pump and block off the port. Reroute your plumbing from the new pump to the carb. Especially if you're gonna cut in a regulator and gauge.

Thanks Mike.... I figured that I probably have to go that route...
