I posted this question some time back and got no response so please offer advice if you can. I would like to know when I should be looking into a new fuel pump. How far will the stock pump take me, and what would i want to replace it with?

I'd go with the holley blue or red or some people use them in conjunction with eachother.

the svt focus pump is the best bet - its cheap and flows enough for upper 500s or so hp, also the tank doenst have to be moddified

Thanks guys I appreciate your responses, I just dont want to leave out any support for the motor. You upgrade and mod here but dont do something elsewhere that supports higher power levels, and then you run into problems later. Thanks again.

The question is how much power are you wanting to make.

If you want 400-450 RWHP then an SVT Focus pump will work.

450+ RWHP get a Cobra Tank and pumps good for 550-600 RWHP

No problem! I am going to be doing an SVT Focus Pump swap in a few days myself, so I had the link bookmarked for some time. Glad I could help.

255lph vortech turbine pump > focus pump

And yes, it IS the correct style pump for the 99 and up cars. It is NOT a gear pump like the walbro 255's.

It is whats called a "turbine pump"

and the focus pumps have some scary drawbacks... check out kenne bell's website for more on that... under the BAP section.

This is what you want:

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=VOR%2D8F001%2D265&N=700+115&autoview=sku

Mine has taken me to over 500rwhp/595rwtq ...also, throw a BAP on it and your set to 700RWHP. I will hopefully have some hard dyno runs within a month to back up Kenne Bell's own testing to 700hp. NOTE: this is also the cheapest, and easiest route. Over 500rwhp you want to mod the pump basket. It involves enlarging a hole in the bottom and drilling 4 3/8" holes in the top so fuel can fill it quicker thus avoiding sucking the basket dry. I will do a write up on it w/ pix when I do mine.

Awesome, was it pretty straightforward following the directions? Any tips, or suggestions after doing the install yourself? I will be doing mine tomorrow. Thanks!

Have less gas as possible . Take your time, don't over tighten screws inside the pump basket, don't drop anything inside and do not smoke while you working . have garage open cause fums from gas is not the best smell . Print it out and do as it say then you are ok. I have 2 jacks so it made my work much easy, or ask your friend or girlfriend to help you lower the tank. Make sure you unhook cable that is clips to the take on 3 place. right , left and front. If you drop any screws inside just take it out with magnet tip telescope.

Used the same write up and took me about 1.5 hrs cuz I was working by myself and had about 1/4 tank of gas. Dropped a small screwdriver inside the tank too, that wasn't fun to get out. Scratched my arm reaching in the tank and the gas made it feel like fire.
