Just a quick background of the car before I get to my question. It started life as an 86 LX with a throttle body v6. I drove the car in high school, the cars health went down hill, I found a great deal on a 2000 V6 and it took me through college and is my daily driver today. While I was in college my dad sold the 86 and this past Christmas holiday I found it on a sketchy used car lot. I bought the car and am going through the process of finding out some issues that the car now has.
The car today- It now has a fuel injected 5.0 in it that, from what I have been told by the sketchy car lot people, came out of a 91 mustang. It supposedly has a full roller assembly though I'm not sure how to tell short of tearing it apart. As far as the tag reads, it has a 3.27 gear out of a 91-01 mustang, some sort of short tube headers, true dual flow masters and that’s as far as I've explored.
My question- I drove the car home, parked it and let it sit for a couple of days. Went to take it for a short ride and it wouldn't start. I tried everything I knew but couldn't get it to fire. I put it on a trailer and sent it to a local shop, they cleaned out the fuel filter and it fired up for them. So I get it back home, drive it a little that night, parked it and let it sit for a week. Went to start it and again it wouldn't fire. I've replaced the distributor cap and spinner, I checked all of the plug wires, and know that it has spark. Loaded it back on the trailer, took it to the shop, and they suggested a new fuel pump. I went along with it thinking that it could possibly have the weaker fuel pump from the original V6. They put it the fuel pump and it fired up. I drove it home this past Wednesday from the shop, drove it a little Thursday night, just turned it on and let it run for about 10 minutes last night, and this morning it won't start. Again its getting fire but apparently no fuel. I don't know much about fuel injection but it looks like it is a pressurized system. Is it possible that during the time that it sits it loses fuel pressure and causes my frustration the next time I try to start it? If this could be the issue, where can I start with this problem? I guess I should also say that when it does fire it runs very strong.
Sorry for being so long winded but I'm kinda new to the fuel injected engine swaps. Thanks for taking the time to read this and any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
