What's the easiest way to dump the gas in my tank without dropping the tank itself. It's an 01 GT.

Well if you dont want to drop the tank then you can either drill a hole in the bottom of the tank.

Or if you don't mind the taste of gas you can get some rubber hose and syphon it out.


In all seriousness Im pretty sure the only way to get it all out properly is to drop the tank.

You can't syphon the gas out. You have a helluva valve down there that prevents you from doing so. If you can burn some out by driving the car, do that till the low fuel light comes on, then drop it. Gas is about 6.2 pounds per gallon. So having 5-8 gallons of fuel slaushing around plus the weight of the tank, gets heavy.

TIP: Spray WD40 around the fuel neck grommet. Twist and turn the neck PATIENTLY!!! You do not want to break the safety valve on the neck, because it falls in the tank. A new neck from the dealer is about 120 dollars. Also, inspect the neck between the tank and the body. Ford's genious engineers zip tied some looming around it to protect it from rocks from the tire.....but this just caused the neck to rot out due to holding moisture and mud!!!!!

I can testify to the valve breaking. . . I now have a filler neck with no valve. Dropping the tank is a very simple process and now that I've done it it could be done in very little time. If there's one thing I learned when taking the filler neck out it's that the easy way out is not the best and doing what seems like the long route will save you ALOt of time later .

Can I disconnect the fuel filter and run a hose into a container, turn the key and have the fuel pump do the work. The filter has to be changed anyway,...

I've seen a shop remove the fuel filter and apply compressed air into the filler neck to push out the gasoline. This was on a Ford focus, not a Mustang. Good luck.

You know what,... I think I should just drive this car for a change and burn the old gas that way, then change the fuel filter.

Dude you don't need to empty your tank to change your fuel filter. The fuel filter is at the highest point in the fuel system.... The amount in your tank will not matter at all. There will be a minor amount of spillage when you disconnect the fuel lines, but this is not severe. You just need to have a rag or two handy when you do it.

A word to the wise: USE EYE PROTECTION when you change the fuel filter. Poking around under the car will cause dust to drop down. You will probably also be right under the filter when you disconnect it... do I need to tell you what happens if you get gas in your eyes?

Sorry for making it sound like I want to just change my fuel filter. It's actually a fuel quality issue. I didn't drive the car much the last few seasons. I am sure there is old gas in the tank and even though I did use a fuel stabilizer I'd like to dump the fuel as it's going to be another month or so before I get finished some front end mods.

I prefer not to run crappy gas through injectors in case I damage them.

Is it possible to damage your injectors by using old gas?

I'm ignorant of this, its why I'm asking the forum.

I am sure the gas in my tank is almost 2 years old. If I have to I'll drive it, but I'd rather not have it sit for another few months in the tank.

Normally, gas starts to form gums by polimerization after 6 months. Check your fuel stabilizer label and see if it says something about how long it will prevent the gas to form gums... I wouldn't worry if it is a good product...

Gum would plug the in-tank fuel pump suction strainer instead of the in-line fuel filter.
