It seems that my 93 Fox body is in need of a new fuel tank. How hard would th is job be for an inexperienced gear head? What would be the items of interest that I would have to pay particular attention to.

It's not tough. An ari wrench for those rusted strap bolts is kinda nice. The nuts feel like they take forever to finally come off. Make sure you soak em for a while if they've never been off before.

Replace all the gaskets for the fuel level sender and pump.

Get a couple BRASS punches to assist you in getting the locking retainers off for those two items.

Ebay has some nice deals on tanks if you don't already have one.

That's about all I can think of. It's not a huge job.

It's not a bad job...maybe 45 min to an hour...including jacking up the car.

Make sure you're fairly low on fuel as it'll make it easier when you're wiggling the tank off of the filler neck. You should unbolt the filler neck from in the fuel filler door area. Don't forget to remove the rubber vent line (goes to charcoal canister). It's kinda hard to miss as but I thought I'd mention it. While you're under there, you might as well change the fuel filter.

Edit: I forgot, it's a good time, if yours is faded and crappy looking, to hit the plastic cover for the tank with some flat or semi gloss black.

I have done it before even with a full tank. Got sloshed with gass a little. It's not that hard to do yourself. unbolt the filler neck first. Also there are proper tools for removing the fuel lines. See if you can get you hands on them. They make the fuel line removal way easier.
