Funny story (got pulled over)

So me and a friend go gambling. We get to the casino, and my friend gets carded, but he doesn't have his damn ID. So we get in the car and drive home. My friend says "You know what would top off this day, is if we got pulled over".

10 minutes down the road I see the flashing lights. Cop asks me "Does your car usually overheat, or just when your going 100?"

At this point I'm thinking there is NO way I was going 100. Maybe 65 in a 55mph zone TOPS. I reply "No it's just burning some oil". Which it really is. So then the cop asks my friend in the passenger seat for his license. I'm thinking oh great, he doesn't even have it. My friend says he doesn't have it so the cop tells him to get out the car. He gets patted down, and then the cop tells me to get out of the car. He asks if I've been drinking. I say "no sir" as he flashes his light in my eyes. He asks me how fast I was going. I reply "sir I know that I WAS NOT going 100 mph". Then he says "We'll you were going AT LEAST 85-90". Then he asks when was the last time you've gotten a ticket. I was like "uhh...about 2 years ago. Then he says "We'll I'm going to let you off with a warning but don't speed any more". I get in my car and drive off.

Now WTF was that all about? He must have been struggling to give me a ticket because I know he didn't get me on the radar. And why the hell would my friend need a license when he wasn't even driving?!?! Anyway, I think it's funny none of these cops check out my blower because I KNOW they see all of my gauges and hear the whistle. I'm just glad I didn't get a ticket. Even though I was only going 10 mph over the limit. But 100 mph, c'mon!

He didnt have you on radar, he was trying to get you to incriminate yourself. Well done

Yup....good call. He was certainly trying to get you to incriminate yourself. Remember, the standard reply is "I believe I was doing the speed limit officer!"…even if you weren’t. I mean….if it’s obvious you were driving waaaay faster than the limit and he’s got you dead to rights, just keep your mouth shut and let “him” tell you how fast you were going, but otherwise, play dumb.

That way, it's up to "him" to prove your guilt, instead of you admitting it yourself. If you say something like "I wasn't doing 100mph...probably 75-80 tops", he's got you. Even if you weren't doing 100mph, you've still admitted to speeding and he's well within his rights to issue you a ticket, whether he got you on radar or not.

He was certainly fishing for an easy ticket and you cut bait on him.

I think theres situations where it pays off to be honest though...I've played dumb and been given a 5-over ticket on the freeway, and also been let off the hook for 77 in a 55 when I admitted I wanted to 'see what it would do with the supercharger'...I just think you have to try to read the cop and the situation and base your explanation/silence off of that.

yeh I found that honestie is the best bet sometimes..

Comming home from work last week I was rocking out in the carpool lane, and I was the only person in the car, well an undercover caught me, pulled me over.. and when he asked me, i told him, "i dont have AC in my car, and im not trying to sit in traffic for the next 30 minutes sweating my ass off in full combat uniform ( i work in the army) so he said thanks for being honest with me and try to follows the rules... and thats it..

The next day got pulled over by the sound police... tried to give me a ticket for "noise pollution" I jyst told them, I know its loud and im working on getting it fixed....let off with a warning...

Ya he was definetely trying to get me to admit something. If I had said "Ya officer I was speeding, but I was only going 65 mph", he would have given me a ticket. I'm glad I played stupid lol. 100mph is pretty damn fast. If he had me on the radar, my car would have been impounded.

Yeah I can't even start to count the # of times I've had stupid parents in residential neighborhoods yell at me or wave to "slow down" because it sounds like I'm going 50 even though I'm going like 15-20. Had a volunteer officer wave at me to "slow down" once too so I just signaled the speed limit to him and kept driving.

Thinking about it, if you gave the middle finger (3) with one hand and 0 with the other it could be interpreted as either "30" or "**** you ***hole"...hmmmmmm...

well i know at least in michigan that if youre over 18 you need to have i.d. on you at all times.

I had a state trooper give me a 75 in a 60 (yes I was in fact speeding) and I was 100% honest with him where I was driving to a church for my g/f's (at the time) nephew's baptism, and I was simply running late. Of course, he took 15 minutes to write me the ticket, just to make sure I was in fact late, and told me to have a wonderful day. What a nice guy!

I always ask to see the radar i know they dont have to let me see it. But everytime i get a ticket i fight it so it makes for a great defense. I might have to pay double the fine or whatever but i always want my plea bargain to include "not on the driving record" Lawyers rule

I doubt that...If you're not driving you don't have to have ID on you, you just have to ID yourself if a cop asks. Otherwise if that were true a bum with no license living under a bridge could get cited every day for failure to have ID.

earlier this year i was a passenger in a car and we were stopped. i was asked for my id and the cop told me that i needed that at all times. cause thats what i thought, i wasnt driving, so i didnt think i needed it.
