Gas Cap Issue

I replaced the fuel filler neck and now the gas cop doesn't fit as well as it did before.

Is there anything I can do to stop my gas cap from sitting slightly crooked and touching the paint on one side?

New? Used? Repro? Is the seal on the cap uneven? The cap or filler may need a little careful mallet work on the inner lip to get the cap to seat evenly.

My aftermarket locking gas cap never did sit correctly. It either shows the horse with the front hoofs up in the air or the horse is upside down. So much for quality control.

BTW, the original gas cap fits fine.

New filler neck, new cap and mine did the same thing. Doesnt touch the paint, but its real close to it though.

At least I dont have to take it off anymore with the Fuel Cell in the trunk.

Just use two cork gaskets between the filler neck and the body panel. You'll see that every now and then on a restored Mustang. Works well, and very hard to tell.

The tank, filler, cap, etc are all reproduction parts.

I was afraid that might be the case, but Im concerned that then it will end up being all out of whack.

Thats not a bad idea. I actually have another new gasket. I will try that tomarrow.

The gas cap fits with out touching the paint now. It still does not fit perfect, but it is much better. Thanks for the tips.
