Gas gauge not working?

Hey whats up.. umm my gas gauge is stuck on full...actually past full.. but anyway i kno the gasket is leaking. will be replacing that this week.. but what else could cause this.. i want to look at everything before i go out and buy a fuel sending unit.. thanks..

I have the same problem, just out of curiosity where are the wires? in front of the tank by the rearend, or by the bumper?

This is a very common problem or at least it seems to be. Mine was the fuel level sending unit. Its just a variable resistor. While you have the tank down you should check the resistance across the unit with it at different positions. If you get OL or infinity then you have an open in the resistor and will need to replace the sending unit. To verify its not the gauge or the wiring, you can hook a 22 ohm resistor to the wiring and the gauge should read empty then hook a 145 ohm resistor and the gauge should read full.

I think the problem is that you have a fox bodied 5.0. That about covers it. haha. I'm on my 3rd fox body and this one has a gauge that's close but still isn't right. My past two cars never had a gauge that worked properly.
