GASP!!! Woke up and found my passenger side flooded.

It may not be as bad as the title seemed, but there was alot of standing water on the passenger front and rear floorboard this morning. I noticed it was nothing more than damp the other day, I figured somebody had spilled something, but I didnt drive it yesterday, and this morning it was pretty bad.

I have a 97 Vert, but I didnt notice any drips from the top anywhere, and driving in the rain I never noticed it coming in anywhere. I am at a total loss as to how this happened except for one, possibly far fetched idea.

The passenger side fake hood scoop thingy has been missing for quite some time, is it possible it somehow can pool in through there on some engine part? or maybe bad weather stripping along the bottom or side of the door?

Maybe the fake scoop isn't as fake as we thought after all.

Perhaps that is why they dont work. If they worked, they wouldnt be keeping the rain off of everyones floor.

Do you have a sub-frame connector ??? if you do check the weld on them, they probably welded the Sub-frame and it it got to hot and put a hole on your floor pan...

Heater core leaks on that side. Check your anti freeze see if its low. Smell the floor see if it has an odor.

I have an 02 vert and last month also noticed that the passenger side front and back carpet were totally soaked. I also am at a loss to figure out where water got in. When it rains I also dont notice any leaks. My Windows were up all the way and doors closed. WTF??????????

If it is the heater core all I can say is: PITA... PITA... major PITA...

Maybe you'll get lucky and find a bad seal around the passenger side window/top...

Ive smelled the liquid....definitely seems to be water. There is a foul smell, but I think it is crumbs from fast food bags, it doesnt seem to resemble anything that would go into a car.

You say to check the heater core. Im an intelligent person, but anything under that hood is like me figuring out chinese arithmatic. Is there a way I could identify the problem without being very car tech savvy? And would it be anti-freeze coming from the heater core? or other engine fluids?

Ill go check my anti-freeze levels when I get a break here at work.

Coolant bottle is by the radiator and if it isn't low, the problem is not likely to be your heater core. If water isn't leaking in around the window or top, it is probably coming from the AC/heater duct unit. That is also a PITA, but you may be able to fix it with RTV without having to remove it. That unit is black and you can readily see it under the dash. Look for evidence of water dripping from that. The duct unit brings air in from the vents between the windshield and the hood. If it is cracked, that could easily be where you are getting water in the car. The water you are seeing is most likely not coming from under the hood, but you could have bas seals between the heater core and the firewall. Look at the firewall under the hood on the passenger side. There are two rubber hoses that feed into the heater core on the passenger side. There should be a gasket between the firewall and the heater core that is somewhat visible where the hoses meet the firewall.

my 03 gt coupe also had water entering a leaking windshield and ending up on the driverside floor . open your door and look on the side of the dash to see if there are any water marks.

My 02GT had a major water leak on the right side. Turns out there was a 12 inch gap
with no sealent on the right side of the windshield. Some one / thing goofed!

Was this always a problem? Or was this discovered after you had the car for a while. Im not so sure a gap in sealent would be the problem since I have had my car 2 years without this problem....but maybe the sealent is weak and cracked?

Get inside your car and have a friend hose it down, then look for any leaks.

The problem took several months to show as it was a dry summer in 2002. The first time the floor was wet I figured I did not roll the window up all the way. Second time a door gasket was replaced. Heavy rain that day left a good inch of standing water. Back my Stang went and the body shop went over it and felt everything was ok. Then they said must be a poor seal around the windshield. The windshielp was removed, and a new one was installed. No problems since then.

now this is in the rear floorboard and not the front? if it were front I would say ac drain tube or heater core. if it is in the rear and not the front I dont have any good suggestion.

Maybe the A/C evaporator pan is leaking or the drain tube is blocked so that the condensation is dripping onto the floor instead of draining out onto the ground. Check the carpet for a wet spot after running the A/C for a while on a humid day. Also, my 96 convertible leaked rainwater really bad onto the passenger front floor. I had all the rubber seals along the windshield, above the side windows, and down the front of the door frames replaced. It cost about $350 but the problem is solved.
