After fixing lots of gremlins in my 88 GT conv,Iam at the last micky mouse problem. The amp gauge needle is at the bottom of the sweep and doesnot move .I checked the alt. with a multimeter and is working fine. Do I have to replace the whole inst. cluster? I did a search and nothing. Every thing else in the cluster works good. Any ideas? thanks. 88 gt conv 5sp mac headers,pro5shifter,sub connectors ,3:55s stut tower br.flows 1956 f100 460 c6 low and fast

The ampmeter can be replaced separately, as can all of the gages in a Mustang. It should mount with two screws through the gage plastic cluster mount and printed circuit.

Carefully inspect the printed circuit and the gage.

All of mine supposedly work, but I have never seen them move, and I have had the 79 Capri for 25 years now.

Note that there are diffenences in how the engine bay and dash harness are connected to the dash. Try to stay with matching dash harness and gage circuit boards. I mixed an 80 and an 82, and smoked the tach with the ammeter circuit.

I have not taken an 87 and up cluster apart, but the earlier ones are easy. Take the cluster out. The clear plastic cover can be unbolted. The the gages unbolt from the back, and the gage unit can be pulled out the front, or face. The needles come with the gages. I swapped tachs 3 times two weeks ago in my 79.
