id break them in, but i didnt! lol... really doesnt hurt to take it slow though. After i got them in i did a little pull here and there and then drove it about 300 miles normal. 100+ passes but you never know! each car is different and its better to be safe then sorry.

I am sure that you should, but I have never broken in new gears. I have never had a problem with them.

You are heat-cycling them to relieve stresses more than wearing in of the actual meshing surfaces.

You pretty much just get them hot and let them cool. About 500 miles of that hot-cold cycling will releive the internal stresses.

No break in needed at all unless you're doing new bearings. If so, a heat cycle or 2 is all you need. Obviously with new gears drive it normally at first to check for noises on accell and decell.

We never break them in at the dealership. No matter the car, cause nobody listens if you say to. We drive them about 20 miles ourselves and at all speeds if you dont hear any howling or whining your fine.

your car is a 1991, just like mine... i have a factory v8 5 speed with 3:73s and mine took a white 23 tooth, that should be the one you need

With the 1990 and up's, the white gear will be close but it will only last temporarily. Mine got chewed up after a little over a year. To completely fix the speedo and make it correct, you'll have to swap out the transmission tailshaft "driven" gear along with a speedo drive gear.

The white speedo gears and not actually a Ford made gear. They are a factory Jeep gear. Many companies sell and market them as Ford's but if they were Ford made, they wouldn't get chewed up since the gears simply don't mesh correctly. The white gears are just a simple temporary fix.
