Well.. I'm getting 3.90's on my AOD 03 GT after hearing people say that the stock is obviously not enough and any where from the 3.73's to the 4.10's are good.. but my question is.. I've heard someone on this forum say they can only top out their Auto (forgot what year, not 03) at 110 MPH due to the RPM's going so high in 4th gear (on 4.10's may I add)... well what should I be able to top out at? Will I be able to go over 110MPH hopefully with the 3.90's? I know it's not as much as the 4.10's, but it's a little more then the 3.73's.. any input would be great.. thanks guys.

Playing with the rpm calculator it looks to me like if a 4.1 maxed you out at 110mph (assuming that is true), then 3.9 would max you out at about 116mph. That would get you pretty close rpm wise. I am not exactly sure how you know what the max speed is though. I am assuming your rev limiter would stop ya. Good question.

Ok, well I don't know how well this works.. but doesn't OD count as sort of another gear? Let's say I'm in OD.. and I'm in 4th.. well would the car then drop into OD as a gear? I remember one time I floored my V6 (laf) anyways.. I got it up to 120 and it dropped into another gear when the RPM's peaked.. could this have been my OD and would this also be true in the V8? I would have to say yes seeing as my V6 was also an AOD as well.. but I'm not sure.. I'd still love to go over 120-130 MPH with my GT and I'm hoping I can with these new 3.90's.

I have 4.10s and my top speed in 3rd is 117mph. I have had my car up to 145mph in 4th with 1000rpms to go, so top speed should not be an issue.

BTW, going that fast is stupid... i know.

Thats BS! With 410's your top speed in 3rd is about 85 mph. 4th tops out at around 112 mph. 145 indeed! try getting your speedo recalibrated, numbnuts! its idiots like you who need to shutup and stop putting out false information.

I hit 150 mph (5000 rpms in 5th) yesterday. Of course, I have 4.10's, not 3.90's and a 5 speed, not an auto. I don't think I'll be doing that again anytime soon. It was still slowly climbing and i'm sure with enough road I could have gone 160, but the road was coming up to an end, and my 20k mile old tires were vibrating.

Guys, I did some research. With a 4r70w automatic, you can tap out 3rd gear at approx. 110mph@6,200 rpms. Thus, I think 4.30 gears is a perfect gear for n/a automatic without internal motor work. If you have a higher rev-limiter than 6200rpms, then go with 4.56's.
