just got my ford racing 3.73 gears installed, motive bearing kit, Rockcrusher Diff cover, and my dallas mustangs speed calibrator installed today....everthing is good except for the speed calibrator.

my speedometer is not working. at around 40-45mph according to the digital readout under the diagnostics option which I have to use for now, my needle reads 10 mph. obviously this isn't right.

anyone have any problems with the dallas mustang speed calibrator boxes? we set it to the proper tire size and gears, so it's set properly, my mechanic wired it all up, checked it twice, and still nothing.

any ideas?

I used the same one and had no problems with mine, I went to there website and they have all the info to set it for your ratio, and tire size, if everything's hooked up right and its set right, it should work. May have it set backwards. Dont really know anything else it could be, you said that the speed-o worked some, so it cant be a bad connection.

Are you sure you have to wiring installed correctly. When you take apart the 2 wires on the VSS and install that into the supplied connector, if you get the wires mix matched on the connector it can throw off the speedo and cause it to read much slower. Happened to me when I installed mine.

That is my write up of when I installed my speedcal in 2002

alright I'll have him check it out tomorrow again...thanks. I preset the speed cal before the install. 1001001000 for 3.73's with 315/35/17's.

alright, started messing with the speedo thing today, and first thing I did was check the jumper settings. bank 2 was all set to 0000000 so I set it to 1000000 like the directions on Black Fangs page said. double checked bank 1 for the proper jumper settings of 1001001000 for the 3.73 and the 315/35/17 tires. that was good.

So after changing it I took it for a test drive around the block, still never moved above 10 mph. so there must be a wire switched somewhere. Here's some pics, to see if we can get this figured out since I have no idea of what I am doing (my mechanic installed this).

went back and double checked all the wires, the green wire was on the right and the blue was on the left with the flat end down, but the instructions said it should be the other way around, so i switched the wires so it should be green on the left and blue on the right. hooked it all back up, reconnected the battery and still my speedometer isn't working. I left the cover off the speed cal when I went around the block and the little red light came on, but the needle didn't move past ten miles an hour.

never mind problem solved!!

called Dallas Mustangs and they had to give me a new switch setting.

i was using 1001001000 but that was for an older speedcal. mine was apparently the newer speed cal, so the correct setting was 0010001101, and so I set it, and then went around the block and she was right on par with the digital readout using the diagnostic startup feature.

so glad it all works now!!!!! woot!

Ok does the gray/red wire(in picture 2) line up with the speedcals gray wire(in picture 1) when they are connected?

should invest in a hand held tuner, it will take care of all those problems plus more

I will when I have money to do so. I didn't even pay for my gear install...i designed a website for my mechanic's shop and in turn got the gears installed.

thats a pretty good trade but the tuner will help you in the long run if you want more mods. it does tire and gear adjustment for the speedo, timing advance, MIL, CEL codes, fuel maps.... good investment in my opinion.

how do the gears feel? big imporvement over stock? i've been considering gears but i dont kno which ratio to go for.

oh yeah big big improvement, she really came alive with just the gears. she runs like a tushy (i can't cuss anymore, because some mods like to give infractions....i thought we were all grown adults here....) raped ape with its hair on fire. I can be at a dead stop, and I lay in to it and she gets up and moves pretty fast.

and as for the tuner, i won't get that until I get the forged engine and blower installed.

NA 4.10's minimum.
If you are going with a blower 4.10's unless going with a roots style(KB) blower then 3.73's
