Geek Help Needed For Gaming Laptop

I think I still have the key. If I remember it's on the case, will check later. Thanks! Guess I misunderstood it as available as freeware.
I thought you could always contact MS for an OEM download of an OS if you had the key. In-case of catastrophic failure.

I probably didn't specify. I think I just said downloadable.

Yeah me too. That's why when we were talking about it I thought maybe Microsoft actually let it go freeware since it's so old. Should have known better than that from MS. LOL!

Nice purchase!!!

What type of forum did i just enter, lol .. I do like Star Trek, just not sure what the heck i just saw though. Too funny. As for me, i play the PS4, can't keep up with the up to date hardware, its cheaper if i just play on my PS4. Also, they are releasing a PS4 Neo version, a 4.5 which will be releasing in October. That one is on my list because of the high graphics, and able to play with the VR. Virtual Reality is the next big thing coming out.

You have entered the world of a Mustang forum off topic area. Here we discuss things from cars, repairs, computers, sports, and most importantly boobs. Sounds like you are not familiar with any of the above so maybe stick around and learn something.

No but I do have 4 copies laying around, I just can't tell if 3 of them are 32 or 64 bit OS. One is definitely 64 bit.

Sorry LOL! I kinda thought maybe it was one of those what type of exhaust should I run questions!

I haven't had a chance to check for my key yet. Pretty sure this model could run either one though. I wouldn't know how to determine the difference based on the disc...unless it just had it printed on it!

I won't be home to check if I still have a key until late tonight. I appreciate the help though from you and the Noobz!

It's not really a big deal unless you're running more than 4G of memory. 32 bit versions cannot access more than that. If you have a system that is capable of accepting more than 4G of system memory (not to be confused with hard drive space or size), you should be running a 64 bit OS.

It only has 4gig. I think it would hold 8 but I have no intention of adding anymore. And I know the difference between a HD and RAM! I'm not that slow LOL!

I think that years ago when our office switched from Win98 to XP Pro we also switched to the new 64bit machines. Odds are that every copy I have is 64 bit OS install.

If the machine is capable of more than 4G then it should have a 64 bit OS. This allows it to handle multi-taking better than a 32 bit machine.

I do have the key sticker still on the side of the case. It came with 2gig and I added 2. I could be wrong about it taking up to 8. It's been years since I remembered the specs of this computer LOL! I do know it was running 32bit XP though.

I'm gonna do the boot disc install. I think I can get my hands on a rom drive it use usb.

Ok last question. Should I boot to a prompt and do a full format before installing XP or just boot to the XP install.

Try to boot to the XP install. It may then ask for a full re-install or a system repair. I'd start with the repair option and go from there.

Thanks! Makes sense.

Now if I can just navigate Microsofts annoying website to actually find a link to download the actual XP OS and not just a bunch of other random crap. I'm about to just put a couple rounds into it and save myself the headache lol!

Well the new laptop should be in this week

@DocG and on another note... I got 2 letters from Dell finances... 1 for each account  So now I have a 10k credit limit with Dell Alienware. It's just a matter of waiting to find out which account I can close later.

I bet you are itching for that laptop!

And LOL why does that not surprise me. Feel free to buy and send me a laptop too since they are just handing out credit.
