Since parting out the car i am kinda looking for another project........ I am debating buying another cleaner sn or doing the below.........

Are there any ford ranger pickups that come with an 8.8 in the rear? I have heard people talke of using the axles in a mustang but didn't know if the rear was the same or what.

I am thinking of putting together a fuel injected ranger pickup....kinda a hobby project that i don't think would wind up being too expensive. Does anyone know of any good site w/ hot to's of FAQ's on this subject, i looked for a little while and didn't come up with much.


I think a five speed, 5.0 with H/C/I would pretty quick, maybe even a little bottle.. yet would still be able to haul stuff around. On another note, i really like the lightnings, but everyone i have looked at in this area is in the 20's and that seems high but is probably just me.


any advice, and or imput is welcomed, talk me out of it, or into it. Just kinda tossing around the idea

I was looking for something else myself...still keep the SN though...Found a sweet ass 89LX, Titanuim with Black stripes, real nice orginal ride...to bad its was an auto...:mad:

Your wheels 18s?, tire size??...:D

Already gone andy. bunch of stuff is already gone. but if i did get an older ranger, i think it would be neat to have a street truck that could raise the tires......all a stock 5.0 mustang would need to do that in a ranger is a turbo. IMO


Kinda want to put something together myself you know....i can gab pretty much any part i would need here at work on the machinery we have here.... so i think i could pull off a suspension that would hook etc..

I always wanted a 98 Cobra myself...Drove a Black/Tan one a few years back, only 26k on it...Nice cars for sure..very smooth, I felt it took awhile to get em going though...Then I opened the hood...:eek: Looked sweet but I wasnt into the learning curve of a mod motor...

Truck sounds like a nice sleeper project...Turbo to boot would be badass...:nice:

He used to be quite into the Rangers as I recall.

:OT: Andy, it must be nice to have the ching (using your term :nice: ) for all the toys you have around. :hail2: Ya got the beautiful stang that you don't even drive hardly because of the new bike. I enjoyed seeing some pics of your shop on one of the recent threads. :nice:

5.0 Rangers are sick. I knew a guy that had one and he pulled away from me and a buddy and was hauling. Alwasy thought having one would be cool. We have talked about doing it to our 85 Ranger someday cause the 2.8(I think it is)V6 they had back then was junk and it don't run for ****.

yeah i have seen a few that would tote the tires on the street, in my mind that is the definition of a hot rod lmao...... drive around on the street with street legal tires pulling the wheels(while not 4 foot but noticeable).

Plus it just would be a neat cruiser, I came across a 98 splash today w/ a blown motor gonna go look at this weekend

Well, as JT said ..... I have owned numerous Ranger's. I love them. If you go through with this project you will not regret it. Your best bet, IMO, is to get a '93-Y2K Ranger. But the swaps are also common in the '83-'92 trucks as well. The '98-'00 are the most appealing, IMO .... the only real difference is you have to worry about the PATS crap and speedometer. No biggie. The SBF swap is common. So is the 2.3T. They are light trucks .... so they can be sweet to drive. Jimmy Cantrell has his truck in the high 11's now. Kicker? It has a V6! I had a black, 2WD, Flareside '98 Ranger with a '99 Explorer 5.0 (+ bolt-ons) and a T-45 from a '96 GT. (custom fabbed adapter for bellhousing ..... not worth it BTW.) It was a beast. And looked/sounded that way, too. Before I sold it .... I was looking for ways to get traction, lol (it can be done).

The swaps are EASY. I didn't do the swap in this truck .... but I've helped do the swap before. Good places to start are:

Oh, and yes, some Ranger's have 8.8 rears (mostly 4x4's). Only FX-4 Ranger's and Explorer's had 31 spline axles, though. The most common swap is '95-'01 Explorer/Mountaineeer rear ends .... because they have 31 spline 8.8's AND rear disc brakes.

tried to sell it and kept getting lowballed on it. i saw the demand on the forums lately for misc parts of all kinds and just went that route. Got my asking price from parts already, and still got more stuff to get rid of.

oh so you trying to get out of the "game", need money, or just wanna something new?

i was thinking about hitting you up on a couple parts but then I figured that was kinda stupid. I have no idea what I'm doing with my car yet so no point in buying parts that i might not be able to use.

yeah man, just had to pay some stuff off without borrowing more money to pay it off you konw. I put a lot of time and effort into that car and it is killing me, but at times i have learned as i grow up "you gotta do what you gotta do" as it has been put before.
