I have an '89 LX 5.0, basically stock besides exhaust, filter & pulleys. Haven't had any trouble till yesterday. Drove for 20 min and car died instantly. Turns over great, won't even try to start. Looks like no spark. 45 min later it starts and runs for a few minutes and dies (Runs completely smooth and normal). I let it cool for 3+ hours and then it ran great for my 20 min drive home and died in the driveway!whew. Pulled a code 18 off computer (SPOUT circuit open or spark angle word failure AND IDM circuit failure or SPOUT circuit grounded) but that's in the KOEO mode, haven't tried KOER yet. Maybe this code is unrelated to my current problem.

Thinking it's the coil or a related component shutting down when it gets hot, any ideas? I don't know anyone local with a stang I can trade parts with to narrow down the problem so hoping someone can help before I go buy 3 things to fix 1! Thanks for any help.

Update for thread searchers. Replaced TFI module and it's a-ok now. Wouldn't be a bad idea to have an extra one of these around!

Woody, are the dates on this thread right?

Dude, it might be about time to replace the TFI again (it's been over a year. ).

Seriously, thanks for updating the thread. That kind of feedback really helps searchers (seems that not a whole lot of folks remember to post results).

Glad it is running good!

You are right about that. A spare TFI is kind of like the spare tire. You wonder should you keep it around, since mostly it just takes up space. After you use it once, you quit wondering why you have it.
