If i replaced my Intake, Exhaust, and got a Supercharger, would i be pushing over 500RWHP (horsepower) in my 2001 cobra mustang? (it has 320hp now), What else could i do to give it a big HP boost?

I would think to make that kind of power on an 01' Cobra motor you would have to do some internal modifications to the engine to handle the boost required to make that much power. Also some sort of tuning agent (chip, programmer, etc) and probally some suspension modifications.

See sig.....
Also note, engine just blew. Forging new block as we speak.

This car had a very safe tune, ran on 94 octane gas....but it's a lot of power for a stock block. FYI.

I was pushing 482rwhp on my 01' with stock internals, but only had it that way one summer. I was pushing the envelope with those #'s. Sean Hylad did the motor after that, now all forged internals, of course, wasn't cheap either, but neither is puking an engine.

ooo, how much does it cost to forge an engine, and what exactly does that mean...?

Here is what confuses me, i mean, its a COBRA< it has all new cobra preformance parts in the engine, how can they not handle 14psi boost? (just and example, i really dont know anything about boosts) , but i mean, arent they really strong?

AND: What kind of boost would you need to push it to 500hp?

Wait, so you mean, you can buy a vortech supercharger, and pretty much , the more you boost it , the more horsepower you get? SO you can put like a 25psi boost and get 800hp? (yet, yes, you would have to be able to have your engine support it)

lol, u better have a damn strong bottom end for 25psi of boost, but seriously if u put on your vortech at 8psi and exhaut etc, u should have approx 500 at the FLYWHEEL. thats plenty of fun for the streets and with a safe tune and little care, it'll last for a while. but some people blow motors right away, some last for over 20,000 miles witha blower.

Much more too it than that...more boost means you need a fuel system to support it. So, bigger injectors, fuel pump, probably need to convert to a return style setup, run high octane gas....blah, blah, blah.

The motor is stong...but only the crank is forged...meaning, under detonation or high cylinder pressure, the block just can't take it. When Ford released the new 03 Cobra with a blower already on the car, they forged the pistons and rods from the start.

To forge your motor, you would have to take the motor out, send the motor to a machine shop to bore/hone it, stuff it with forged pistons and rods (reusing your crank) and reassemble the motor (simply put). Now you can run a little more boost, more timing, and be a little more aggresive on the tune to get more power.

I was running 13 lbs of boost. Boost isn't the only thing that makes power when talking superchargers...it's a big part of it, but a lot of other things come into play.

Oh....16 lbs of boost is getting on the wild side on a street car usually.
Cost to forge your motor; depends. If you have a shop do the labor and parts, around $5500. Yourself, $4000 or so. Depends on how much you want to put into it.

Well put 99SVT Addict! My setup actually was tuned to run on pump race fuel (100 octane) by SHM. I had to go to twin 190lph in tank fuel pumps (the 03' setup) but I'm still running the returnless system. Sean put an Afterburner efpc on it for the added fuel requirements. My static compression is 10.5:1. Mine is definately not a daily driver, maybe 3000 miles a year, just a toy.

Actually, SHM uses the aluminum block up to HP #'s of 1,000 before going to the iron one, so the block isn't the weak factor, it's the pistons and rods mainly, usually top ring land failures.

SJ....ya, I think that's what went bad on my stock block...won't know till we tear into it, but it's getting rebiult regardless.

Diamond pistons, forged rods, crank, bored/honed deck...all on the aluminum block. Gonna upgrade the fuel pump again to a focus pump, slap a power pipe on it and may end up doing a two tune chip...93 octane and then 110 race gas for the track.

Figure 530-570RWHP depending on tune. It became a toy about 1.5 years ago.

Hey, just looked at your sig...did those cams do anything for you? Are they loopy cams...can you hear them at idle?
Thanks.

Yep, the cams are noticable at idle. My idle is 1,000 rpm's, Sean couldn't keep it running at a lower idle. The specs are on his website, can't remember them offhand.

I just looked them up....yup, says it's loopy at idle, good range between 5000-8000 RPM's.

The website says $1095 for fresh grinds....$600 or so for regrinds, but you need shims. Is that Canadian pricing? Anything else you need when going to these cams?

Sorry, didn't mean to highjack your thread Xtreme, but hopefully you got the info you were looking for.

SHM actually did all my work. They picked the car up from my home and delivered it when finished. You'd have to contact them for shim info. I think all the pricing on their site is in US$.

I know what I've paid...and what I'm about to pay....and I know SHM is even more, so my advice, "Don't even ask!"
