I know i will probably get flamed for this , but i have always owned trucks , and when you needed traction , you just got out the stick welder and had at it. My question is that my rear right now is pretty beat. The ring and pinion are chipped , and the trac loc is smoked. I am going to replace the entire rear as soon as i get up some cash. Untill i put in the new rear , can i take the truck route and weld up the spiders? Would i be better off just puttin in a spool right off the bat? I cant seem to find one for the 28 spline axles and i wasnt sure if you needed to remove the ring and pinion to install it , because if that's the case it isnt worth it for me to do right now being that my ring and pinion are beat. I am just looking to get some traction back untill i build up a little cash . Thanks guys!

Yeah, you can do that. Its gonna be annoying as hell though when your making turns and your tires are skidding and chirping like a locker lol.

i'm pretty sure you have to pull the ring gear to install ANY sort of differential.

The old "lincoln locker" technique...well, it all depends on what you do with it. If it is a straitline car, it should be fine, but if you turn...you can pretty much forget it.

.

Is the Trac-Lok trashed or just need rebuilt? I wouldn't ruin a Trac-Lok by welding the spiders if it's rebuildable. You could even sell it when you pull it if it's in rebuildable shape

I drove a jeep wrangler on 40's everyday with a welded rear , im used to the chirping tires. What exactly does it involve to rebuild the trac loc?

I drive a Samurai daily with a welded rear, you get used to the sounds, and looks from people when you turn hard on sticky pavement. It pushes a little in the rain, but traction is 100% better than open.
