Now dont hate me for this. I had a 72 Nova with a 400+ HP small black with "Purple Hornies" and the sound was bad-@ss!! When idling it made the ground shake. Now who has put some glasspacks on a 5.0? Any sound clips? I think they soud great as long as you dont have the deceleration "pop." Ive run turbos, ultra-flows, 40 series and 50 series flows, and chambered tube mufflers; I think glasspacks sound powerfull. Plus everyone and their grand-mama has Flows. And the glasspacks are cheap. Should sound similar to Loudmouths (which are too expensive) and Dynomax Bullets. I was thinking offroad H then dual 2.5" 18-24" glasspacks.

Just my opinion though,

So then your running stock mufflers?

Headers, H pipe and 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust isnt for sound. Its for better flow. C'mon now, Ive cut open a muffler and yanked out the internals and welded er back up to improve flow. I even made my own custom exhaust on my gass powere blender.

I'm not running mufflers to make my car sound loud.

I run mufflers to muffle the sound created by a cammed 408 cubic inch motor.

Your first post did not mention power, only the SOUND.

Appearance over performance is RICE and GAY.
Especially when one is trying to make their motor sound more modified than it really is...

If your intentions were otherwise, then I apologize.

But your first post gave a rice impression...

glasspacks sound terrible. and i think its socially uncouth to have them if you dont have a mullet and your car doesnt have a confederate flag.

Its a 85 Mustang with T-Tops. It requires a Mullet to drive!!
While blasting some Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, maybe some Def Leapord.

Whatever

And I do admit it can be difficult to quiet down a 460HP small block with 3" pipes and not hurt performance.

Oh c'mon now dude....with as many options out there as there are, and since pretty much all of them are going to flow about the same....why not shop for something you're going to like?

Anyways...as for the original post...just remember that the Nova had 400+hp...that's going to make any exhaust sound awesome. Take "X" mufflers and put them on a 400hp 5.0 and then put them on a stock 5.0 and they'll sound different. I've never heard glasspacks sound right on a 5.0 though.

I guess this makes me a ricer, I am changing mufflers for better sound. Not necessarily the loudest possible, but to me the best sounding. I do agree glasspacks will sound awful.

I love how modifying your car to suit your taste automatically means "rice". I swear i F'in hate that term as much as import drivers do.

I've got glass packs on straight pipes on my mustang, came with the car, and it sounds like a truck at low rpms.

well my stupid stock mufflers started falling apart like 3 years ago, so i just had an exhaust shop weld straight pipe on my car. It kinda sounds big block lol, but it realy aint, when i let go of the gas it will pop pop popity pop. I got used to it. But dont worry i dont care how it sounds, Im just saving the cash for an SLP exaust set up.

Hey now, the next fastest thing after greased lightning is a greased turd

They say you can't polish a turd....actually you really can, but in the end you just have a shiny turd.

Glasspacks may sound alright if you're young, IMO. But they sound like $#!+, plain and simple. You ARE going to get the cackle when you let off, and yes that just screams "redneck", "I wanted to make my car sound like my truck", "hey ya'll, watch this!!!!", etc.

I had them on my car for a while, 2", 20-whatever inch glasspacks, no crossover, big a$$ chrome tips. Luckily, it was on my '73 Merc, and it kinda' fit with the era.

I got rid of that finally, and put on some Hooker headers, SpinTechs, 2-1/2" mandrel pipes, X-pipe, and stainless wrapped tailpipes, to give it that "sleek" look. On a 357C EFI, it sound a LOT better, and get compliments quite often.

So, long story short, leave the glasspacks on the cars that can run them and not sound all "Dukes of Hazzard-ish", and "hey, look how long MY mullet is", glasspacks on an old car, if you have a car in the EFI era, spend a little more, and get a little more respect in the long run.

Friends don't let friends run glasspacks on Mustangs.

There is a mustang around town with glass packs. I would say it sounds fine. I doubt it is as loud as my car. I would not describe the sound as annoying. It sounds fine to me. If you like the glass pack rasp at higher rpms then go for it.
