Hello, have a quick question for you guys. Was thinking about upgrading to a efan , but have been told stock alt won't hold up much. Instead of a 3g install, was wondering if anybody has tried a gm 1wire alt on a computer controlled 5.0?
If someone has send me some instructions on how you did the wiring.

thanks

what i did was take a ford g3 and have a alt. shop install a self exciteing regulator then all you need is one wire. the power wire that goes from the alt to the solonid(sp). make sure you use like 4ga wire and put a big enough fuse inline to handle the alt. I bought a wire kit from latemodel restoration supply (50resto.com) and did mine like that.

Unless this is done for cost (the GM alts can be cheap), a 3G can be made essentially into a 2 wire alt (the power cable and the excite circuit. For the latter, accessory and cranking 12 volt feed run through a resistor).
The other two regulator wires get looped. Easy.

Good luck.

See http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=646825 for 3G wiring. Check out my post #20 and look at the diagrams. It makes a one wire alternator seem silly. It's so easy a caveman could do it...
