GM style alternators

So my alternator decided to crap out on me yesterday while I was crusing down Broadway. Luckily I was able to coast into a left turn lane and get out and push her across the intersection. I ran to Checker quick and got a stock 61 amp (I thought stock was 55amp?) alternator to get me home. I want to upgrade to a 100amp or larger 1 wire alt now. I should have a long time ago since I've been running a decent sized stereo setup for over a year now. I remember hearing our cars can use the GM style alts. Is this true? What would I have to do to make it work on my 289? I've heard about the Powermaster and PA-Performance kits for the 3G styles from late model Tauras's and Stangs, but those are spendy. I've also searched a few forums about alternators. I'm just trying to find the best bang for the buck. Thanks!

i got a 3G mustang alt on ebay for $55...came with the harnesses as well...then i need to head over to an car audio place to grab some more 4Ga wire, fuse holder 165A fuse. I would look into a 3G, esp. with car stereo equipment.

i would use the 3G alternator. grab one from the same taurus that you get your new electric fan from

grab some of the stock wiring harness as well, as much as you can get

I could just steal the alt and fan out of my sisters 99 Taurus Think she'd notice?

if she doesn't know cars...probably not,

you can ask if her, "wiper fluid light" is ON.
