Goals for your car... What was it and where are you now?

Always wanted it to be a 12sec N/A stang. I did this last summer on street form.

And I always wanted to hit 11's with whatever, in my case it will be nitrous. Soon to be.

I have to sell the stang but would feel like a coward to let it go without achieving this second goal...Thats why I need to do it ASAP.

my car was pretty much stock when i bought it. it still is. What i want to do is after i get all the suspension and brake goodies it, put in a 347 and t56 combo. the main purpose for the car is daily driver/show car/ autocrosser. i have also toyed around with the idea of a single turbo setup with the 347, partialy because i love the sound of a turbo spooling up.

I wanted my 95 to be in the high 12s and still be completely stock looking and have the A/C still functioning. My goals are still pretty much the same. I have a plan to get there its just that I had to replace/repair other things like all the sensors (ECT, IAT, MAF, O2s, TPS), the A/C high pressure switch, new tires. I even had the tri-bars repaired to better than new condition (I like 'em). My car will get there eventually. Just a matter of time and expendable cash.

it seams my goals for my car are always changing first, it was 425 at the wheels which it made easliy, then 11 sec 1/4 mile, now its 10's with this combo .

My goal is 12s na. I'm a second off (13.9@96). I have an Edelbrock Performer Intake waiting to go on the car with a BBK TB. I have most of the other bolt ons, so I'm hoping it goes around 13.2-13.4 once I get some suspension and the intake done. Then I'll throw a set of heads and cam on it and it should hit 12s no problem.

Currently a V6, which will be swaped out for a 5L when a suitable doner car is located. The goal is a to create a solid car with a good fundation (V8) and great suspension (currently under way, parts should be on by end of week) Long term goal is to keep the convertible clean & sharp so that it can be passed on to my daughter when she's ready (14) as she loves the drop top! Car over all is in good shape but is in need of paint & top, which could be done by end of summer or at the lastest next spring. With everything planed out I could have just bought someone's GT rag top, and done it for less money, but my 6 is paid for. It's not about the $$$ it's about sharing the experience with my daughter. Pictures will be posted as stages of this Dad's OverHaulin (damm I love that show) take place.

My goal is to use mostly all Ford factory parts and to create a Mustang GT the way that I feel it should have come from the factory. A very nice grand touring sports oriented car. Good handling, and stopping and a power to weight ratio of about 1 FWHP for every 10 pounds. This would put the car in the range of most good factory performance vehicles. I also want to do this on a low budget of about $5000 total cost including vehicle.

So far I'm on track:

Heads = $470
Intake = $250
Springs = $50
Fuel pump = $50
Headers = $280
Roller rockers = $185
X-pipe = $125
65mm TB = $50
Misc. = $250
01 Cobra rims = $400

Total = $5110

So far I've only installed the springs and rims, but the other parts are either in the garage or in a UPS truck on the way. I think I'm on track so far.

10's this year or im sellin it

1st goal: run 14.0 with stock E7 heads.... DONE!

2nd goal: run low 13's at around 105 with H/C/I... DONE!

3rd goal: run into the 12's with my heavy vert NA... DONE!

4th goal: get my car featured in a national magazine... DONE!

5th and final goal for the 95: run 11's NA... I will know in a week if I'm there or how much closer I hyave come to it!


6th goal: get my '90GT running with a single turbo'd stock long block motor and run 10's... it will be a while before this goal is achieved! LOL!

My goals have always been a h/c/i combo not to concerned of times. Seeing as how the track is far and breaking something is a big concern for me. The only thing that has changed goal wise is what h/c/i to use. Now in leaning towards a gt40p head milled (a lot), wolverine 1190 cam, use my cobra intake just ported.

My goal is a junkyard (GT-40p, Explorer Intake) Combo with stock cam and 1.7's, suspension mods, and a great looking car.

I never really had intentions of doing anything to my car, or plans for it.. Maybe thats why It's always changing and never good enough, lol

Right now my goal is, get the damn thing running and driving.. then I'de like to see some 9-10 second slips, and keep the driveability.

Funny you should post this Q as I've been asked the same one over the phone on more than one occasion.

After I got my car I said with just a little more power from some steeper gears I'd be satisfied

After the gears I said with just a little bit more power form some small bolt ons I'd be satisfied

After self ported E7', Edel intake, shortys, mid pipe, and cai I said I'm still not satisfied so I'd better do some research and make some goals.

I researched throughly the following:
centri blowers
K B blowers
turbos
stock block combos
stroked 302 combos
windsor motor swap conversions
stroked windsor combos
custom tuning interfaces for self tuning

I talked to many peeps from the above various camps to see what was possible.

I spent more time on the pa research cause I've built countless na combos in my youth but they were all old school cars with carbs and the like.

I also spent a good bit of research time on self tuning cause I saw the same trouble over and over when talking to the pa guys. Every one of them had drivability probs. Some had more success at fixing them than others but in every case where they had some help with the tune they said it got much better.

At this time Paul Riva was about the only guy I had found with a mild street combo using Ed's stuff and I started to take notice. It didn't take me long before I started the first of many phone conversations with Ed about my car.

The guys who used EEC Tuners and (at that time) the just out Tweecer gave me enough info to know what I could do with it.

I then focused my research on stock blocked na mild street combos at 300rwhp or better. Experience with all out race cars and very radical street cars made me know that kind of thing would not be acceptable for my 95. I knew the hp goal was a no brainer as many had done it but when looking at their dyno charts I was not happy with any of the torque curves I saw. I wanted a tq curve that from a very low rpm had a sharp rise and was flat until 5k rpm or better. I then found close to what I was looking for when I saw Paul's chart.

At this time I had enough info to set some goals I knew were reasonable.

300rwhp or better
broad/flat tq curve of 325 to 350rwtq at a redline of 6k to 6200 rpm
12.99 or better 1/4 mile et
stock weight (no gutting)
stock block in na form
all accessories operational
stock looking appearance (sleeper)
emissions legal & pass annual inspections
stock drivability

I got all of em done except the hp/tq and track time.

I've upgraded the tb/maf so I feel certain I'm done with that goal at this time but I won't get to the dyno for a while longer to verify.

As for 12.xx 1/4 mile times I can't say for certain as money is not available to play with the car at this time. I can say that others with similar combos have obtained that goal. Stock clutch & street tires would not allow my efforts at the strip to be very fruitful at reaching my goal.

The car has turned out much better than I expected and the two main reasons are:

If I did it all over again, what would I do differently? ...... been asked that one a time or two.

When making my plans and goals, I had no idea I could use the Tweecer to tune to the level of success I've achieved. If I would have known that I would have told Ed to go hotter with the cam specs

I'm satisfied with the results ......................... however
Just a little more power would be better

I'm thinking a 2200 KB with the zilla dilla thingy would just about do it

Well mine was first of all to run 8's in the 1/8 on street tires. When the car was bone stock (except 3.55's) I almost did that. Now since i know im over the 8's its time for 7's. My goal is to run a 7.99 atleast by the end of this season. So as money allows heads will soon be purchased and then LT headers and nitrous. If after the dyno tune when all that stuff is on, I cant run a 7.99 or better I will quit. Fix up the exterior get black interior and garage it.

I want one of the best all around 94-95's in the country. I want 12's on motor, and 11's boosted. And I've done a lot in the 2 1/2+ years I've owned it. New motor's going in soon, then a s/c then pant. After that it'll be pretty much done and it will be time for another project.

H/C/I is the mod goal so far i got the intake and some of the small bolt ons so i'm on my way. Track times arn't really a big deal at the moment cause I haven't went to one yet

I'd also like to get the rest of the car painted the half and half car jsut looks funny lol

I'm sure I'll be like the rest of ya's with wanting to go faster and faster but i try not to think about that just yet

My first goal was to own a mustang . My first goal after I got the car was to have it re-painted and make it look unique without going overboard on the body kit. I think I did allright with that one...

My performance goal for the car is to make it beat a C5 Vette all around. Better handling and quicker acceleration than the Vette. I've realized that Im probably not gonna road race it that much, so I probably wont do too much more with the suspension, but I should easily beat the Vette in the 1/4 when I get my car back together.

My other goal is to not lose to my cousin's Firebird GTA , and I havn't lost yet, but he'll probably build a 700+ HP engine after I get mine running.

when i first got my car i thought it was the fastest thing around and was so happy to have the car... then i came here and seen what everyone else was doing with theirs and i realized i had a slow car... my goal now is to have a nice looking car thats capeable of low 13's high 12's
